EXTON » Two Exton girls have started their own online Etsy company, selling handmade jewelry and donating a portion of the proceeds to local animal shelters and a national Rainforest foundation.

Julie (14) and Mallory (11) Bogle started their business in the spring of 2017.

“We learned how to make earrings and had always talked about owning an Etsy shop,” Julie Bogle wrote in an emailed response to questions. “We decided to set it up after a yard sale that wasn’t very successful for earring sales.”

And so Loopholes Boutique was born.

Julie Bogle said she came up with the name, thinking it was a “funny name because earrings are just loops that go through a hole in your ear.”

The sisters do the work all by themselves.

“Mallory and I both make pairs of earrings and then quality check each other on our pairs and discuss what we like and dislike about each other’s designs,” said Bogle, adding that her favorite product is a newer item — fabric stud earrings. “They’re so fun to make.”

The two sisters collect items from around the world when they travel with their father and use the materials to make their jewelry.

The two sold a collection to Monkey Fish Toys, at 662 Downingtown Pike in East Bradford. According to Bogle, 75 percent of the collection has already been sold. She added that the sisters have about two to three sales each month on Etsy.

Bogle said a challenge has been keeping the Etsy shop active, because the sisters are so busy.
