Bruce A. Gilbert, 90, of Boyertown, widower of Barbara Joan (Bernhart) Gilbert, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Pottstown Hospital.

Born in Bernville, he was the last surviving child of the late S. Mabel and DelRoy Gilbert.

He was employed in the maintenanc­e department of Mrs. Smith’s Pies in Pottstown for many years.

Bruce served in the US Navy as a Corsair pilot before/during the Korean War. He was also a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 471.

Bruce also volunteere­d at Pottstown Hospital and local Boyertown Meals on Wheels for many years. He is a member of St. John’s Evangelica­l Lutheran Church in Boyertown. Bruce loved sports, especially the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, 76ers and college basketball and could often be found wearing team apparel. He was an avid crossword puzzle solver and loved ice cream and sweets. He was a knowledge buff on military aviation, the English language, and the weather (especially the cloud types). He enjoyed deer hunting and making frequent trips to the cabin.

Bruce is survived by his children, Todd A. Gilbert, Pamela J. Rader and Scott B. Gilbert of Boyertown. He was ‘Pop-pop’ to 5 grandchild­ren - Megan Gilbert, Ryan Gilbert, Kiley Boggs (Gilbert), Alyssa Albright (Rader) and Derek Rader. And ‘Great Pop-pop’ to 5 great grandchild­ren, Bryce and Chase Gilbert, Cora and Dakota Albright, and Hallie Boggs. Bruce is predecease­d by his sisters Harriet Gresh, Joyce Kreider, Elaine Gresh and Dorothy Fryer.

Funeral Services will be held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc. 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, PA. 19512 on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
