DOWNINGTOWN » Friends and family gathered recently to congratulate 13 newly licensed practical nurses (LPNs) on their graduation from the Chester County Intermediate Unit Practical Nursing Program.

The graduates were composed of part-time students from the Downingtown program and are the eighth part-time class to graduate from the program.

The ceremony began by Michael Katch, assistant director of Career, Technical & Customized Education at the CCIU, welcoming and congratulating the graduates on their achievements.

The Practical Nursing Program’s Director Nancy Haughton presented the graduates, including the Downingtown cohort valedictorian Katie Perine and salutatorian Christina Kelly.

Downingtown’s class president LaCora Clayton lead the class in the Practical Nursing Pledge and then introduced the guest speaker, Staci Barbone, BSN, RN, who is the Health Career Pathways instructor at TCHS Pennock’s Bridge. In her remarks, Barbone emphasized the bonds of service and mission shared by all Practical Nursing Program graduates and LPNs in general. Barbone noted that this common bond is not only essential to the continued growth of both each LPN, but also to the growth of the profession as a whole.

Following Barbone’s remarks, four students were inducted into the National Association of Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc. Honor Society.
