Willis J. Pierre
Willis J. Pierre passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 following a brief illness.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Willis will remember him for two significant reasons: being an outstanding teacher and an avid collector of baseball memorabilia.
Born January 14, 1938 to Margaret W. and George L. Pierre., Willis attended Princeton, N.J., Public Schools and graduated from The Hun School in 1956. He earned a BA degree from Washington and Jefferson College and a Master’s Degree in teaching from Washington State University. Willis began his teaching career at Lake Forest Academy in Illinois, but spent the majority of his career at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where he was a dedicated math teacher for 32 years.
Amongst Willis’ many achievements were seven grants from the National Science Foundation, as well as grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and from the Mathematics Education Trust to have a geometry book, written by students, published-GEOMETRY ACCORDING TO US.
Willis was also honored with a Kohl Teaching Award and a Disney Outstanding Teacher Award.
Retirement did not slow Willis down, but instead he pursued a variety of hobbies including baseball, coin and autograph collecting. He continued his love of learning, developing skills in photography and art.
Willis will be fondly remembered by all who knew him and greatly missed by students, friends and family. Burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
