Pottstown Rumble volleyball tournament returns this weekend
POTTSTOWN » Everyone in Pottstown knows the familiar inflatable characters standing in Memorial Park can only mean one thing.
It’s that time of year for the Pottstown Rumble.
Setup for the 27th annual Pottstown Rumble began Thursday as volunteers could be seen setting up tents, spray painting lines and preparing the field in Memorial Park. The Rumble, which will be held from Friday, June 22, to Sunday, June 24, is the largest grass doubles volleyball tournament in the country, bringing in thousands of players in multiple divisions.
On Friday guests can expect Pottstown Rumble Juniors, Men’s and Women’s Masters Grass Doubles Tournaments.
Saturday, the morning will start off with a fireworks show as over 2,000 players await the start of their games, according to the tournament website. Saturday afternoon brings Women’s Pro Finals to center court while the Men’s Pro division wraps up Sunday evening competing for the $5,000 first place prize.
In addition to the games, Memorial Park will be filled with gourmet food, clothing vendors, an onsite massage therapist, and music throughout the weekend.
The first Pottstown Rumble Grass Volleyball Tournament was held in 1991. It was a one-day event hosting just under 200 players on 40 nets and started out with just three people organizing the event. Now, the Rumble has an executive board of 12 volunteers and a workforce of 50 people. In addition, it has also grown into a four-day tournament with 150 nets and nearly 3,200 players.
