John R. Rhoads Jr., formerly of Boyertown

John R. Rhoads, Jr., 91, formerly of Boyertown, passed away June 26, 2018 at 7:17 AM in Manor Care, Pottstown, where he was a guest since April 24, 2014.

He was the husband of Gladys Mae (Weidner) Rhoads. They were married August 21, 1950.

Born in Pottstown, he was a son of the late John R. Rhoads, Sr. and Elsie G. (Reppert) Rhoads. John was a truck driver for Valley Protein until his retirement and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Obelisk. He enjoyed country western music, visiting local fairs to listen to music, traveling on bus trips and gardening. He also enjoyed attending church and local fire company socials and suppers.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his 5 daughters – Nancy L. wife of Joe Hamel, Carolina Shores, NC, Gladys M. wife of David Collet, Brooklyn, NY, Penny L. Delp companion of Nino Biscanti, Boyertown, Carol A. Leyman, Fort McCoy, FL, Cindy J. wife of Dannie Thomas, Jr., Boyertown, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his sister – Mary wife of Richard Stoudt, Boyertown, his brother – Clyde Rhoads and his companion Sandy Hoffman, Boyertown. He was predeceased by his son John R. “Jack” Rhoads, III who passed in December 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 3206 Big Road, Obelisk. Pastor Paul E. Chapman will officiate. Interment in Keelor’s Union Cemetery, Obelisk. Viewing on Saturday from 9-11 AM at the church.
