Skrocki, Spring City blank Downingtown
Jake Skrocki was the best of the two pitchers in the duel.
Skrocki threw a shutout Wednesday to lead Spring City’s American Legion baseball team past Downingtown, 1-0. The matchup of the Chester County League’s top ballclubs went into extra innings before SC, scoring in the bottom of the eighth, dealt Downingtown its first loss in league play.
The pitching was strong on both sides, Skrocki fanning eight in his completegame stint while Downingtown starter Jake Reese had eight of his own.
Coy Walters drove in the game’s lone run with two away in the eighth, dealing Reese the loss.
Andrew Huang, JC Reed, Walters, Kasey Caras and Ryan Harvey each collected hits for the Sox. PHOENIXVILLE 3, LIONVILLE 2» Both teams were strong on the hill, but the Phantoms rode a three-run third inning to victory over the Hillcats in Chester County League play.
Logan Perrone, who relieved starter Cole Eggleston in the fourth inning and threw four-hit ball over the next three, got the pitching win. Branden Fink led Phoenixville at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI while Kevin Cushing drove in the other two. NORCHESTER 11, SHILLINGTON0» Austin Odell threw a one-hitter, and the Bulldogs used a five-run fourth inning to score a mercy rule victory over the Red Sox in Berks County League play.
Odell yielded just one hit and a walk in his complete-game stint, striking out nine. At the plate, Andy Blum (2-for-3) drove in four runs with help from a firstinning homer, and Casey McGinley (2-for-3) had two more RBI. WEST LAWN 3, DANIEL BOONE 1» While both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound, the Owls had a bit more might at the plate in a Berks County League victory over the Mavriks.
Brett Goodrich pitched for Boone, going 5-2/3 innings with nine hits and three runs while striking out two. Josh Piccarreta and John Dinnocenti each collected hitsfor the Mavriks. Perkiomen’s lone run came in the fourth, Tim Landis driving home Logan Curley. Robert Guzman absorbed the pitching loss after lasting just four innings. QUAKERTOWN 4, POTTSTOWN 0 » The Steelers were held to three hits as they were blanked by the Blue Jays in their Bux-Mont League outing.
Alex Stump, Cole Miller, and Gebhard all had one hit for Pottstown. Owen Morton took the pitching loss for the Steelers, yielding five hits and four runs over 4-1/3 innings while striking out one and walking one.

NORCHESTER 4, PHOENIXVILLE 2 » Josh Smith threw 6-1/3 innings of fourstrikeout ball to key the Big Dawgz’ Twin-County League victory over Phoenixville.
Christian Grillo came in to relieve Smith and got the save. Julian Funaro reached base three times, including a hit, and scored a run. Aidan Rindfuss also had two hits.

PHILADELPHIA PGA JUNIOR » Axel Kalbach came away from the first day of the Precision Pro Golf Open with a solid round at Turtle Creek Golf Course.
Kalbach, a resident of Royersford, finished in a four-way tie for second place in the Boys 13-18 Division. Kalbach’s even-par 72 was matched by Jonathan Lumley of St. Augustine, Fla., Morgan Lofland of Paoli and Ryan McCabe of Media. Thomas Butler of Telford was low man in the division with a three-underpar 69.
Other area players competing in the 13-18 Division were Joshua Brauer of Royersford and Conrad Benford of Parker Ford (tie 10th, 77), Luke Watson of Royersford (tie 25th, 84) and Jason Rieger of Collegeville (42nd, 90).
In the 12-and-Under Division, Kayley Roberts (Phoenixville) tied for second place with Mason Tucker of York, both shooting 45s. They trailed bracket leader Tyler Debusschere of Wallingford, who carded a 42.
