Landlord cited

LOWER PROVIDENCE » Police cited a landlord for harassment after he allegedly sent vulgar text messages to a female tenant in the 400 block of South Park Avenue. The renter came into the police station to report the offending messages on June 18. After reading the texts, police contacted the landlord and ordered him to have no contact with the victim other than matters relating to the rental property.

Assault at car wash

LOWER PROVIDENCE » On June 17 at 6:47 p.m. police were called to the area of

Ridge Pike and Sunnyside Avenue by a passerby reporting an assault. The victim, an employee of a nearby automated car wash, told police he got into an argument with a customer he saw backing into a bay, which could damage the equipment. The customer reportedly exchanged words with the victim and told him his friends were on their way. About three minutes later a vehicle arrived and several occupants got out and “jumped” the victim, leaving him with a bloody face and hands before speeding away.

Drug deal thwarted

LOWER PROVIDENCE » Two men were taken into custody after a plain clothes officer interrupte­d them in the middle of an alleged drug deal in the 3200 block of Ridge Pike during the Lower Providence Fair, June 15. According to the criminal complaint, around 10:15 p.m. the officer noticed the men in a

vehicle while they were looking down with the dome light on. When the officer approached, he observed one of the men holding cash in his hand and the other with small plastic bags containing a white substance on his lap. The driver of the car was apprehend at the scene, but the passenger, who was holding the suspected drugs, climbed over the driver and out of the driver’s side window and began running from police. He

tripped and fell while fleeing and was apprehende­d by a uniformed officer. In all, seventeen bags of cocaine were recovered.

Counterfei­t bills

LOWER PROVIDENCE » On June 12 at 5: 20 p.m. police were called to the Acme supermarke­t, 2761 Ridge Pike, for reports that several attempts to use counterfei­t $100 bills were made at the store in recent weeks. The

first bill was passed in May by an unknown suspect. The second bill was detected by a cashier when a male customer tried to purchase a gift card. When the man was informed the bill was counterfei­t, he cursed at the cashier and fled. A third bill was successful­ly passed by a woman in full hijab, and a fourth bill was discovered in a tray at the self-checkout line. None of the bills had watermarks. Police took them into evidence.

Home burglary

LOWER PROVIDENCE » On June 15 at approximat­ely 5:45 p.m. police were called to the 500 block of Falcon Road where a burglary had just been discovered. The victims, who were on vacation, had $35,000 stolen from a cabinet. The cabinet’s lock was broken and the door to the room the cabinet was in had been damaged by someone forcing it open. An investigat­ion is ongoing.
