Area congregations schedule special services
Friedens UCC
Oley: A special worship service will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Friedens United Church of Christ, 337 Main St. “Happy Birthday, America,” a Readers’ Theater featuring famous Americans. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Special musical guest, Travis Wetzel, band leader, composer, instrumentalist, singer and song writer from Nashville. Travis plays a variety of music including bluegrass, swing, jazz, country, gospel, Cajun, Celtic, Klezmer, classical and blues. He has performed at a variety of venues including the Grand Ole Opry and the Kennedy Center. All are welcome.
Victory Christian
Pottstown: : A Yard Sale/ Bake Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Victory Christian Life Center, 28-30 N. Washington St. Household items and lots of baked goods, hot dogs, chips and drinks. All money raised will go toward the Capital Fund for the new building.
Christ Lutheran
Barto: Pastor David Penman, supply pastor, will lead the congregation at the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road.
St. Peter’s Lutheran
Pottstown: The Parish Life Committee will serve patriotic-decorated pastries and a variety of drinks in the church parlor following both the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 564 Glasgow St.
First Baptist
Pottstown: Sunday School and nursery at first Baptist Church, Charlotte and King streets, have been discontinued until September. Rev. Dr. Patricia Murphy will be guest speaker at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday. All are welcome.
Zion’s UCC
Pottstown: Diane Chinault will provide the special music on Sunday at Zion’s United Church of Christ, Hanover and Chestnut streets. She will play two flute solos. Rev. Mary Etta Mest, music director, has announced a “Just For Fun” Handbell Session each Wednesday in August at 6:30 p.m. No commitment! Dates are August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Let Mary Etta know if interested.
St. Luke Lutheran
Obelisk: The St. Luke Softball Team will play an away game Sunday at 5:30 p.m. with Faith Bible Fellowship at Spring City. The Community Clothing Rack will be closed on Wednesday for Independence Day. It will be open July 11 for drop off, and July 18 and 25 for distribution.
St. John’s UCC
Pottstown: Rev. Judy Miller will be the guest speaker at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 11 S. Price St. The service will be held at 9:30 a.m. in air-conditioned Fellowship Hall. Dress is casual and all are welcome.
Coventryville UMC
Pottstown:
Special Music at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday at Coventryville United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Ridge Road, will be a solo by Bobby Domarsky.
Bally Mennonite
Bally: A Refugee Hygiene Items Collection drop box is set up outside Bally Mennonite Church, Route 100, to collect refugee hygiene items which are distributed by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC, church relief agency) around the world. Community participation is welcome through the end of August, and specific instructions on items being collected can be found on the website at www.ballymc.org.
Bethel Community
Pottstown: Coffee and Light Breakfast will be served during Church School with Pastor Ross at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday in the community room at Bethel Community Church of Pottstown, 575 N. Keim St. Encouraging all officers to attend Church School. Newly appointed and elected officers will be presented to the church family during the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday.
Brownback’s UCC
Spring City: Linda Bauer will be leading the special holiday-themed service filled with many patriotic hymns and a reading about our flag at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Brownback’s United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Road. Following the service, all are invited to Fellowship Hall for root beer floats.
