Pottstown’s American Legion baseball team scored in just one at-bat Sunday.

But it proved a timely outburst for the Steelers on two counts. They plated eight runs in the fifth inning to dismantle Plumstead, 8-3, and keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in the Bux-Mont League playoffs.

The game at Sundstrom Field was tied at two with Pottstown batting in the bottom of the fifth, Nate Camacho singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

By the time it was over, Jake Eagle (3-for-3) drove in three runs while Josh Gery, Dean Fiorini and David Hicks added one RBI apiece. Eagle and Fiorini each hit doubles in helping the Steelers stake an 8-2 lead Plumstead was only able to dent with a solo run in the sixth inning.

Owen Morton earned the victory on the hill for Pottstown, allowing six hits and three runs against six strikeouts over 5-1/3 innings. Timmy Dobbs threw the final 1-2/3 in relief.

The win moved Pottstown (7-12) back into the eighth — and final — spot in the Bux-Mont playoff picture. The Steelers have just one regular-season game left prior to the league postseason commencing Thursday, with Doylestown (6-9-4) in ninth and facing one more regular-season outing.
