Program scheduled to combat Spotted Lanternfly

Lower Perkiomen Valley Park to hold session on invasive insect

OAKS » Come to Lower Perkiomen Valley Park on Saturday, July 21, at 2 p.m. to learn more about an alarming invasive insect. The Spotted Lanternfly is a significant threat to Pennsylvania’s trees. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Penn State Agricultural Extension need your help to combat this invasive insect — already found in Montgomery County.

Sally Sue Richmond, Master Gardener and Senior Lecturer in Information Science at Penn State Great Valley in Malvern, volunteers with an outreach mission from the Penn State Cooperative Extension to arm citizens with knowledge regarding this threat and share how they can help. She will be presenting her program at the Park once in the summer and once in the fall as each season takes a different approach to eradication of the pest.

All ages are welcome, but this program is better suited for high school and older. There is a suggested donation of $2 per person. Preregistration is preferred. To reserve a space, call 610-6665371. Participants should meet at the Main Pavilion. Event will be canceled if the weather is severe.
