Boone falls to Post 217 in Berks playoff opener

Daniel Boone was in the driver’s seat for much of Wednesday’s game with the Post 217 American Legion baseball team.

But the Oley Valley unit took control with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. It used that lead-grabbing surge to claim a 4-3 victory over the Mavriks in their Berks County League playoff game.

The game was tied at three with Post 217 batting in the bottom of the sixth. Jonas Hoch singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Boone got things started in the second inning when Carson Zuber hit a basesclear­ing triple to get three runs across.

Drew Swire pitched Post 217 to victory. He allowed one hit and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five.

Joe Fatzinger started the game for Post 217. He lasted 3-1/3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking one,

Justin Peifer took the loss for Daniel Boone. He went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

Michael Bishop led Daniel Boone with two hits in three at-bats.

WEST LAWN 9, BEAR-CUBS 8 » The Boyertown Bear-Cubs forced their Berks County League playoff game with West Lawn into extra innings, but they were unable to claim victory when West Lawn scored twice in the bottom half of the eighth.

Boyertown (26-6-1) used a four-run seventh to pull even at 7-7, getting twohit efforts from Tanner McCafferty, Sam Legerton and Tyler Hoffman. Trey Yesavage had two RBI for the Bear-Cubs, who will be back in action Saturday, July 21, in the Pa. Eastern Regionals. NORCHESTER 7, GRIZZLIES 6 » Shay Geib’s walk-off single produced the winning run for the Big Dawgz in their Twin-County League playoff game with the Boyertown Grizzlies.

Cam Brashear threw 4-2/3 innings of relief for the win. Jarrett Cousens chipped in with two hits for Norchester.
