Credit union hosts successful blood drive
FORT WASHINGTON » Twentytwo pints of blood were recently collected during a blood drive sponsored by TruMark Financial Credit Union in support of the American Red Cross.
The blood collected during the drive, held at TruMark’s Fort Washington headquarters, has the potential of saving more than 66 lives, according to a press release.
The summer months are among the most challenging times of the year for blood and platelet donations as regular donors delay giving while they vacation and participate in summer activities, according to the Red Cross.
“Our employees understand the importance of donating blood used for life-saving treatment and emergency care in our community,” Karen Sweeney, senior vice president, chief human resources officer at TruMark said in the release. “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to help raise awareness of the need for new blood donors.”
The credit union holds three
blood drives each year as part of its community outreach
program.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters, supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood, and teaches
skills that save lives.
