Take a look at what friends and neighbors are saying about local hot topics and join in on the conversation.

It’s the middle of July, the weather is perfect and there wasn’t one person working at 2 p.m. on Route 422 up around North Coventry, not one person. They should look into who’s running this project, who approved it, and how in the world can this project be taking so long when in the middle of the day on a beautiful day with not one cloud in the sky there’s not one person working on Route 422.

I don’t know what’s the matter with the Pottstown Post Office. I’ve lived at the same place for over 30 years. We had carriers who would have the mail here within a half hour each day like from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Now one day it’s here at 1 p.m., next day 2 p.m., even after 3 p.m., you never know. If you’re waiting for a check to come, he’s not here till after the banks close. He comes so late sometimes I’m thinking about putting a light inside the mailbox for daylight savings.

How funny is it that we now have people calling in saying that they don’t think Donald Trump should be able to campaign for other Republican politicians and they think it should be illegal? These people don’t seem to recall that the prior administration spent eight years campaigning, hence the nickname for Barack Obama as campaigner-in-chief. Big B.

The Pottstown AMBUCS that sponsors the Soap Box Derby car race every year deserves a lot more credit than they have received. They care about their community. I’ve seen firsthand their involvement with the kids and the families during the Soap Box race and they’re a great organization. The borough and community of Pottstown need to applaud that organization and support them more. They do a lot more other things that are unheard of. Good job AMBUCS. Bobby Watson

Mr. Trump, are you aware that the head of Tesla is in China and signed a deal to build a very large automobile plant in China? Why is that? I thought you were taking care of all that Donald. You had it all figured out. Well that didn’t seem to work out too good. And the cranberry farmers in New England aren’t too happy either. The 30 percent of cranberries they export to other countries now will have a big tariff on them thanks to you. You’re so unqualified it’s pathetic. AR

I found out who the bike lanes were installed for — the policemen. They’re the only ones I see riding bikes in Pottstown. What a waste of money.

This is to all the people talking about the immigrants coming over here. I hope you watched the World News Tonight on Tuesday when President Trump said “Please, please bring your kids over here legally, not illegally.” That should settle something. JCS

Let me educate some of the people out there. When these immigrants come here and they seek asylum that’s legally coming here. I hate to tell you that but you ought to read the Constitution or talk to your congressman or something because if anybody thinks they’re coming here illegally when they seek asylum, they’re allowed to do that. So think about that before you talk.

Following collective bargaining reforms in Wisconsin, a reported 70 percent of educators opted for larger paychecks over paying union dues. In light of the recent Janus vs. AFSCME decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on “agency fees,” we could see similar outcomes at all levels of unionized government employment. Mark Furlong

I can’t say enough about these heroes in Thailand who rescued the boys in that cave. I didn’t think it would turn out well but it did. They did everything that they needed to do and they did it well.

After watching the news I believe each one of these Democrats that are against the Supreme Court nomination I don’t think they have a thought of their own. They all have to read the statements that they want to make. Somebody writes a statement, they stand there and read it and it sounds like that’s their idea.

I’d like to comment on the person who says that the Constitution gives free rights to everybody coming into the country. If that’s so, why even be a citizen? Why don’t you just give everything to everybody regardless if they pay for it or not? What a goofy idea that is.

It is legal for people to enter the U.S. if they are seeking asylum and Trump has no right to deport them without a hearing. It is very possible that some of our Mercury readers had relatives that came here for this very reason. Also as of Tuesday they still cannot find 50 parents for 50 children under the age of 5. Twelve parents they know have already been deported without their children. Shame on Trump.
