Boyertown ousted from Berks playoffs, must wait for states

Its season isn’t over ... just on an unplanned hiatus.

Boyertown’s American Legion baseball team found itself closed out of the Berks County League playoffs Saturday. Daniel Boone administer­ed the finishing blow in their losers’ bracket game at West Lawn, scoring an 8-2 victory to move itself into Sunday’s championsh­ip-qualifier field.

With five runs in the sixth inning, Boone expanded a 3-2 lead enough to keep its season alive. The Bears, in the meantime, will have to wait for the Pa. State Tournament they will be hosting July 28 to see game action.

Boone pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. Tim Richard singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run, and Josh Piccarreta tripled to plate another two.

Chase Lacey’s RBI double led the Mavriks’ run production in the sixth.

Brett Goodrich pitched a complete game for DB, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one. Gavin Richards started the game for Boyertown, yielding five hits and three runs over five innings with four strikeouts before Drew Hartman and AJ Kline finished up.

The Mavriks racked up 12 hits. Piccarreta had three and Matt Stevens another multiple-hit effort.

Nick DiCiacco and Broc Babb both had multiple hit days for Boyertown. NORCHESTER 9, EXETER 3 » The Bulldogs rode an early lead to victory over Exeter in another losers’ bracket game from the Berks County League playoffs.

Norchester earned the victory despite allowing Exeter to score three times in the first inning. The ‘Dogs pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning, keyed by singles from Casey McGinley and Andy Blum.

Dan Stofko earned the win for the Bulldogs. He surrendere­d three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Liam Goletz took the loss for Exeter. He went two innings, allowing six runs on five hits. PERKIOMEN 6, PLUMSTEAD 1 » Perkiomen Post made a big early lead hold up on the way to victory over Plumstead in their Bux-Mont League losers’ bracket game.

David Kilroy had a threeRBI day for Perkiomen, the league’s fourth seed, as part of his 2-for-3 outing. Trey Livingston­e and Charlie Haag (2-for-2) each plated runs to help the locals build a six-run lead before Plumstead was able to get on the scoreboard in the seventh.

Robert Guzman pitched a complete game for Perkiomen, scattering three hits and one walk while striking out six.

NORCHESTER 11, PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 » The Big Dawgz capped their sweep of the Twin-County League playoffs by rolling over Phoenixvil­le in five innings of their championsh­ip game.

Josh Smith threw a complete game for first-seed Norchester, yielding just two hits while scoring twice. Julian Funaro had two hits and scored two runs and Alex Mihos hit a two-run triple.

The Dawgz went 3-0 in the playoffs, their earlier wins coming against Spring City (4-3 Tuesday) and the Boyertown Grizzlies (7-6 Wednesday). Second-seeded Phoenixvil­le, in turn, worked its way back from a 5-3 loss to the Grizzlies Tuesday with wins over Upper Perk (11-1 Wednesday), Spring City (11-5 Thursday) and Boyertown (15-5 Friday).
