It’s been playing with a sense of purpose the last four days.

The purpose being the furthest advancement possible in the Berks County League playoffs. And because it’s done so, Daniel Boone’s American Legion baseball team finds itself playing for the circuit championship.

Since a 4-3 loss to Oley Post 217 in last Wednesday’s opening round, the Mavriks have been dispatching the opposition each day. Sunday, they repaid Oley for the lone blemish on their tournament record by eliminating Post 217, 5-3, at West Lawn.

Boone, which came into the post-season as the league’s third seed from the East Division, spotted the West’s second seed all its runs in the second inning. But the Mavriks answered with four in the third before adding insurance in the sixth.

In Boone’s big inning, Matt Stevens singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. An error enabled the Mavriks to plate another run before Brett Goodrich and Josh Piccarreta followed with RBI singles.

Jeb Kurtz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Boone in hits.

John Dinnocenti pitched a complete game for the Mavriks, scattering eight hits and striking out two in his seven-inning stint.

In the wake of its openinground loss, Boone had prevailed over Shillington (forfeit, 7-0) and Boyertown (8-2) prior to the rematch with Oley. It will now take on the host Owls for the league championship, with a berth in the Pa. Region Two tournament at stake. WEST LAWN 10, NORCHESTER 3 » The Bulldogs were unable to make an early lead hold up

against the Owls, and they found themselves eliminated from the Berks County League playoffs in the championship-qualifier round.

Norchester, the East Division’s top seed, did all its scoring in its first at-bat. West Lawn answered with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame, then pulled away with four more in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.

Brian and Jordan Siket and Austin Odell drove in the Norchester runs, with Austyn Levengood and Jack McLaughlin having two-hit days. Brad Pryor took the pitching loss for the ‘Dogs, touched for five of West Lawn’s runs and three of its hits. SPRING CITY 9, WESTTOWN 3» The Red Sox bounced back from a hard loss Saturday to stay alive in the Chester County League playoffs with a solid win over Westtown.

Top-seeded Spring City set the game’s tone by scoring four times in its first at-bat and three more in the third. Its last two runs came in the bottom of the fifth after Westtown completed its scoring.

J.C. Reed drove in two of the Sox’ runs while Pat Jucker (2-for-3) and Kasey Caras (2-for-5) had multiple-hit outings. Grant Calvarese got the pitching win for SC, with Brad Clemens getting credit for a save.

The Red Sox will be off Monday, awaiting the outcome of the weather-postponed winners’ bracket final between Downingtown at Lionville. They will be back at Ram Stadium Tuesday against an opponent to be determined. BUX-MONT LEAGUE » Inclement weather wiped out the entire slate of Sunday playoff games at Quakertown’s Memorial Park Stadium, pushing the league’s championship-qualifier play to Monday.

Perkiomen Post will play the host Blue Jays at 4 p.m., with the winner of that game facing Hatfield-Towamencin at approximately 7:30 p.m. The team coming out of Monday’s play will then face Souderton Tuesday for the Bux-Mont championship and second berth in the Pa. Region Two tournament.
