POTTSTOWN » Feeling lucky?

The Tri-County Active Adult Center (formerly the Pottstown Area Seniors’ Center) is holding its 21st annual raffle again this summer.

While the popular fundraiser is no longer offering a chance to win a new car, you can still take home a grand prize of $10,000.

That’s just one of many cash prizes being offered. A second prize of $5,000, and five additional prizes ranging from $50 to $250 are also available.

In previous years, winners were given a choice between a $10,000 cash prize or a new car,

but starting last year, the car prize was dropped because of changing insurance regulations. The additional cash prizes are new for this year’s raffle.

“We used to borrow a car from a local dealership,”

said Brian Parkes, executive director of the Tri-County Active Adult Center. “However, since the insurance regulations changed, we broke up the cash prize. The lack of a car didn’t seem to reduce interest in last year’s raffle, so this year we’re really hoping to meet or exceed $15,000, the amount we raised last year.”

On average, the TriCounty Active Adult Center raises around $15,000 to $20,000 a year from the raffle. The money goes toward programs used for helping older adults and keeping them healthy, active, and living independently, according to Parkes.

“We get a third of our budget from Montgomery

County,” said Parkes, “And the rest comes from organizations such as the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation. People can choose to be a member and pay a membership fee, and about half of our programs are fee-based.”

About 150 people use the center on a daily basis, with many others only coming once a year for services

such as tax help. With those individuals taken into account, the center helps around 1800 individuals on a yearly basis.

Anyone hoping to purchase raffle tickets can do so by stopping by the center at 288 Moser Road, Suite 1 in Pottstown, or by stopping by one of the car shows held on High Street in Pottstown on the first Saturday of each month.

Raffle tickets cost $10 each, or 4 for $30. Each ticket offers seven chances for a cash prize.

Weather permitting, the drawing will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. at the Pottstown Classic Car Show on High Street.

You do not need to be present at the car show to win a raffle prize.
