Spring City Jr. Legion stumbles against West Lawn in Pa. State Tournament
Spring City’s Junior American Legion baseball team has the edge in pitching and hitting during Saturday’s game with Murrysville.
On Sunday, however, the Red Sox found themselves on the opposite side of the equation against West Lawn. With a 10-4 loss to West Lawn the result, they are playing for their championship lives in the Pa. State Tournament they’re hosting.
The Owls set the tone in this second-day winners’ bracket matchup by scoring pairs of runs in the second and third innings. They effectively put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh, though Spring City reduced the deficit with three runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Jack Kisela was SC’s offensive leader with two hits and three RBI. He was also the bright spot on the mound, striking out four in three innings- work.
West Lawn, which came into states off a championship finish in the regional it hosted, got two-hit outings from Gabe Bunn and Jack Gensemer. Ryan Spatz gave the Owls six-strikeout pitching for the 5-2/3 innings he worked. MURRYSVILLE 6, J.P. MASCARO 4 » Mascaro found itself eliminated from the Pa. State Tournament after seeing an early lead erased by the West third seed.
Mascaro, champion of the Norchester Regional, struck for four runs in the third inning with Dominic Meoli plating two. But Murrysville responded with five in the fifth after getting on the scoreboard in the fourth.
Brandon Botta and Daniel Carr each hit safely twice for Mascaro. Jeffrey Gong worked the first four innings on the mound before Joey Carfrey finished up.
