Missing snake causes a stir
EAST GREENVILLE » A missing pet boa constrictor has been causing quite a stir in East Greenville.
Police received a report of a 7-foot-long red tail boa constrictor missing from a residence on Hamilton Road, according to a Facebook post by East Greenville Borough.
The 10-year-old snake’s name is Vinnie and it was reported to police on Monday that he was missing from the home. Reports from NBC 10 say the owner noticed the snake was missing about three or four weeks ago but had only recently realized that the pet had left the residence.
The snake has not yet been found, but according to reports, a possible sighting caused an area event in Bieler Park to be canceled. The Open Link, a multi-service agency serving the greater Upper Perkiomen Valley, canceled the event in a Facebook post Monday citing “a large animal on the loose near the site.”
Police were on the scene investigating on Monday and East Greenville Borough stated in a post later that day that there had been no confirmed sightings.
Early Tuesday morning East Greenville Borough posted an update to the incident:
“Concerning the missing snake, the owner has revealed that it went missing 3-4 weeks ago. Due to the time delay in reporting, the police consider this a closed matter.”
The snake is 10 years old and can hide anywhere.
Authorities are asking people in the Montgomery County community not to touch Vinny if they find him. Instead, they are being asked to call police.
The East Greenville missing snake report comes about three weeks after a 4-foot python was found slithering around Amity Township. In that instance, the snake was seen in the area and dropped off at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. Since the owner never claimed the reptile, the snake was then taken to the Venom Institute in Leesport to stay as an educational ambassador.
