Substance violations lead crime in past week

Eight incidents involving drug or alcohol violations were reported to Pottstown police since July 24.

POTTSTOWN » Drug and alcohol violations were the leading crime in Pottstown over the past week.

According to crimemappi­ng.com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area eight incidents involving drug or alcohol violations were reported since July 24. Six of the eight incidents involved public drunkennes­s and were reported on the 900 block of East High Street, Robinson Street, King Street, the 100 block of North Franklin Street, Industrial Highway and the 500 block of Manatawny Street. Drug possession was reported on the 200 block of Shoemaker Road and the 600 block of Chestnut Street.

The second most reported crime in Pottstown over the past week was theft. Three retail thefts were reported on the 200 block of Shoemaker Road while one theft from buildings occurred on the 300 block of West Chestnut Street.

Assault and vehicle breakins were each reported three times since July 24. Vehicle break-ins were reported on West King Street, the 900 block of East High Street and the 500 block of North Adams Street. An assault involving hands, feet and fists was reported on the 400

block of High Street while an assault with a weapon was reported on the 300 block of Walnut Street. A non-aggravated assault was also reported on the 1400 block of East High Street.

Harassment and vehicle theft were each reported twice in the last week. Harassment was reported on North Washington Street and the 300 block of North Charlotte Street while vehicle thefts occurred on the 600 block of Grant Street and the 300 block of Chestnut Street.

Fraud, burglary and weapons offenses were all reported once. Fraud was reported on the 600 block of Grant Street while a burglary involving forced entry was reported on the 100 block of North Washington Street. One weapons offense involving a firearm was reported on King Street.
