Limerick firm wanted to ‘help out within the community’

POTTSTOWN » Platinum Plumbing and Heating of Limerick recently installed a new air conditioner for a family in Pottstown at no cost.

The installation was the prize in a contest the company hosted on Facebook — to award the system to an area family.

“We came up with an idea to help out within the community,” said Nichole Ryan, director of marketing for Platinum Plumbing and Heating.

Ryan said there were about 10 contestants, adding that after reading through all the Facebook entries, the Magliano family of Pottstown was the unanimous winner.

Kerrie Magliano and her husband, Jim, purchased their Pottstown home three years ago, their Facebook entry stated.

“We picked up a home warranty, and made our dream list of things like finishing the basement and adding a back deck, to make our little home perfect to start a family in,” the post said.

Six months after the purchase, Magliano was pregnant.

“Thrilled, we left the big redos for later and focused on perfecting the nursery,” the post continued.

But Kerrie Magliano’s health declined and the couple’s unborn daughter “was quickly falling behind in growth.” At 34 weeks, their daughter was born weighing 2 pounds, 13 ounces, which was followed by a month-long stay in the Paoli Hospital NICU. The additional medical bills forced the couple to drop

their warranty and make many “sacrifices across the board.”

“They were using what they called ‘a maze of fans,’” to cool their home, according to Ryan. “Within two weeks, we installed a new system with no cost to them.”

Platinum Plumbing and Heating installed a 1400 Seer Payne system with both an outdoor and indoor unit, according to Ryan.

The family decided to enter the competition after

hearing about it from a coworker.

“We figured we had nothing to lose,” Kerrie Magliano wrote in an email. “If we didn’t win, we were still going to contact Platinum regardless of the outcome.”

The Maglianos have since been able to “remove all the box fans that were on the floor, hazardous for our toddler,” she added.

“The house is now at a much more comfortable temperature. My daughter

and my allergies are definitely managed, making us both happier,” Magliano said. “We absolutely will continue working with them. We are picking up a maintenance plan with them and have already referred our neighbor to them.”

And the Maglianos’ installation is just the first for Platinum Plumbing and Heating, according to Ryan.

“I plan on doing something like this each season,” said Ryan, who added

that in the winter she hopes to host a competition for a heater.

The idea of giving back to the community is instilled across the company through its owner Andrew Burger, Ryan added.

Burger served in the Army for four years, according to Ryan.

“He’s a very giving person,” Ryan said. “He gives back to his community and his country.”

“At Platinum Plumbing and Heating Inc., we’ll give you the attention and personal service you deserve,” according to the company’s website. “We understand how important your home is to you, and we take your trust seriously. Our expert technicians use only quality products and take pride in completing each job to the highest industry standards.”
