Applicants sought for board vacancy
Letters of interest due by Aug. 13
LOWER POTTSGROVE » If you’ve ever thought about serving on the Pottsgrove School Board, but didn’t want to go through the trouble of running a campaign, this is your chance.
In the wake of the resignation of Pottsgrove School Board President Matt Alexander last month, the board has decided to publicly interview prospective replacements at a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the district office, according to information posted on the school district web site.
If you’re interested, send a letter of interest and resume to Pottsgrove School District; Attn: School Board Vice-President; 1302 Kauffman Road, Pottstown, PA 19464.
The resume and letter of interest must be received by 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13.
An appointment to fill Alexander’s seat will be made the next night, at the regular Aug. 14 school board meeting.
At that meeting, a new school board president must also be selected.
Alexander, his wife and three children have moved out of the district to a home in Washington Township and he submitted his resignation last month.
Alexander was just reelected in 2017 so whomever the school board chooses will not serve out the remaining three years of his term. Instead, the person chosen to fill Alexander’s seat will serve until the next local election cycle, which is November 2019.
The Pottsgrove School Board has seen its share of resignations in recent years.
Jodi Adams resigned in 2013 and was replaced by Dee Gallion.
In 2014, Kelley Crist, who had run with Alexander the year before, resigned and was replaced by John Rossi.
And in 2016, Rossi himself resigned and was replaced by Robert Lindgren.
Two other people who applied for Rossi’s seat, Scott Hutt and Charles Nippert, subsequently won election to the school board in the 2017 elections alongside Alexander.
