TRAINING CAMP NOTES

- — Bob Grotz

Coaches corner: Doug Pederson conceded that running back Donnell Pumphrey is running out of time to show he belongs on the squad — and in the league. After a decent start in camp, he’s been shut down by a hamstring issue. “It’s tough from the standpoint obviously you’re not getting the practice reps you need, and obviously the game reps,” Pederson said. “And being exposed to not only our roster, but 31 other teams who are watching our games. Each day is a little bit of a missed opportunity. He’s got to get himself healthy and try to get himself back here as soon as he can.”

Players corner: Look for Nick Foles to play at least a series against the Patriots Thursday at Gillette Stadium. That’s a pretty good opportunity to gauge the new game-day operation with offensive coordinator Mike Groh and quarterbacks coach Press Taylor, who replaced Frank Reich and John DeFilippo, respectively, from the team that helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl. “It’s different,” Foles said. “It is going to be different. It’s different people. But I think this is a great time for us to grow together and experience this right now.”

Quotable: “It alleviates all the pressure on everybody’s arm, especially this time of camp when they’ve had a lot of throws.” — Pederson on adding quarterback Christian Hackenberg to the roster.

Play of the day: Certified deep threat Mike Wallace burst through double coverage and hauled in a bomb, in stride, from Foles in 11-on11s. Pederson should have ended the practice right then.

Concern of the day: Cornerback Jalen Mills exited practice with an undisclosed issue. The Eagles can ill afford to lose Mills, their most reliable coverage guy.
