Man seriously injured in motorcycle accident

NORTH COVENTRY » One man was left seriously injured after a motorcycle collided with a car Wednesday morning.

The North Coventry Township Police Department responded to the area of West Schuylkill Road and Laurelwood Road for the report of a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle at around 7:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, police found the operator of the motorcycle lying in the roadway after being thrown from the motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle was stabilized and transporte­d to the North Coventry Fire Department’s parking lot by Goodwill Ambulance to an awaiting helicopter. The operator was then flown to Reading Trauma Center in West Reading with serious injuries, police said.

Through an investigat­ion, officers found that the Honda Goldwing operated by Gary Hagy of Reinholds, Lancaster County, was driving west on West Schuylkill Road when it went around stopped traffic in the right turn only lane to continue west. He then struck a Honda Fit operated by Justin Shtofman of Boyertown as he was turning left onto Laurelwood Road, according to North Coventry Police.

The accident is still under investigat­ion.

North Coventry Township Police Department was assisted by West Pottsgrove Township Police Department, North Coventry Fire Department, Sanatoga Fire Company, Goodwill Ambulance and PennStar Medivac.

The operator of the motorcycle was stabilized and transporte­d to the North Coventry Fire Department’s parking lot by Goodwill Ambulance to an awaiting helicopter.
