Chamorro, PV boys win opener

Max Chamorro had a goal and an assist Friday as the Perkiomen Valley boys soccer tewam downed Marple Newtown, 3-0, in nonconfere­nce action.

Chamorro got the assist on Matt Holmes’ score in the 21st minute, then added a tally of his own in the 68th minute. AJ Hansen rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 69th minute while Alessandro Vennettill­i and Josh Moyer combined for the shutout in goal. HARRITON 2, METHACTON 1 » Harriton won its opener over Methacton 2-1 on a penalty kick with two minutes left in regulation by Alexander Kades. Down 1-0 at half, Methacton pulled even from a free kick that ended with a goal by Logan Rambo assisted by Ryan Sheridan.

Goalkeepin­g duties were performed by Methacton’s Brian Desvars with 1 save, and Harriton’s Zach Schulman with 2 saves. SPRING-FORD 1, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1 » The Rams and Patriots traded second-half goals on the way to a season-opening draw. Aiden Hudon finished a Colin Trainor corner kick for Spring-Ford’s score. Goalie Ray Fortebuono made eight saves for the Rams. DANIEL BOONE 3, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 » Caleb Rahn scored twice and Aden Slifer added a third as the Blazers downed the Indians in each team’s opener. Kevin Morris notched an assist for DB. GREAT VALLEY 1, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 » After a scoreless 70 minutes of back-andforth action, the Patriots got the eventual winning goal when Miguel Fuentes knocked in a Matthew Wellener corner kick.

Quintin Wrabley posted the shutout in goal for GV, making five saves.

Girls soccer

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2, QUAKERTOWN 0 » First-half goals by Ali Devers and Sydney Marasco fueled the Vikings’ non-league victory over the Panthers in their season opener. Devers ended the early deadlock, scoring through traffic off Marasco’s corner kick. Marasco then added a goal of her own when Taylor Reiff found a pocket of space to play her into a breakaway.

Riley Hill needed to make just five saves to record the shutout. METHACTON 4, NORTH PENN 2» Maggie Bordonaro hit for a hat trick and Ruby Murray scored her first career varsity goal in Methacton’s season-opening 4-2 win over North Penn.

Goalkeeper Liz Greene had 10 saves. North Penn’s two goals came via penalty kicks. GREAT VALLEY 4, PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 » Emma Gray had three goals and an assist in the Patriots’ border battle win over the Phantoms. Leeza Galli scored Phoenixvil­le’s lone goal.

Field hockey

SPRING-FORD 2, UNIONVILLE 1» Kate Crist scored both of the Rams’ goals during their non-conference win over the Indians.

Ashley Della Guardia finished with six saves in the cage, beat only once by Unionville’s Maura Minter at 22:54 in the second half. Opposing keeper Madison Detweiler finished with five saves. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 7, PENNRIDGE 2 » Kelly Battinger and Saige Shine each scored a pair of goals as the Vikings downed the Rams in non-conference play.

Battinger added an assist while Julia Downing, Emma Lafferty and Gabby Martina each registered solo tallies. Danielle Hamm had a pair of assists and Ashley Derrick finished with five saves. METHACTON 7, NORTH PENN 1» The two-goal outings of Katy Benton and Rachel Alderfer headed the Warriors’ season-opeing win over the Maidens.

Liz Chipman (one assist), Alexa Kratz and Frankie Lucchei rounded out the Methacton scoring. It provided sufficient support for goalie Molly Frey who had an eight-day save in goal for a Warrior unit that built a 5-1 lead in the first half. OWEN J. ROBERTS 2, NESHAMINY 1 » Olivia Leclaire’s unassisted score in the second half was the difference in the Wildcats’ seasonopen­ing win.

Bridget Gallagher opened the scoring in the first half, assisted by Julia Lamb. Neshaminy managed a consolatio­n score by Peyton Ritchey while goalie Cayden Jarvis (4 saves) and the OJR defense preserved the win down the stretch. OJR held a 15-6 shots advantage. QUAKERTOWN 4, POTTSGROVE 3 » The Falcons led 3-1 at the break, but couldn’t generate any offense during the second half on the way to a non-conference loss to the Panthers.

Katie Bean and Riley Simon each had a goal and an assist while Jayde Yorgey also scored a goal. UPPER MERION 7, NORRISTOWN 0 » Samme Deskiewicz netted a hat trick and added an assist as the Vikings blanked the Eagles in the schools’ inaugural Battle of the Bridge.

Nitzy Urias (assist), Deann Boyer (two assists), Molly Weygand and Halle Howard all added solo tallies while Anya Waller and Anandeep Singh combined for the shutout in the cage. Cross country

CITY CHAMPIONSH­IP » Linus Blatz led Owen J. Roberts’ domination of the boys race in the traditiona­l seasonopen­ing meet that included Pottstown, Pottsgrove and Hill School.

Blatz covered the Wildcats’ home course at Warwick Park in 11:07, edging out teammate David Brunton (11:09). Matt Muthler, Quinten Sherwood, Thomas Damian, Vince Fennell and Cole Smith took the next five spots ahead of Hill leader Tucker Dunn (eighth, 11:31) and Pottsgrove’s Brandon Henriksen (10th), with Jamie Sharp (15th) Pottstown’s top finisher.

On the girls’ side, Pottsgrove’s Naomi Hillen won in a time of 13:11, ahead of OJR’s Hannah Kopec (13:25), Cali Van Druff and Mikayla Niness (both 13:45). Olivia Tullman gave the Hill a fifth-place (13;46) effort, and Naomi Parson (30th) was Pottstown’s first finisher.

Girls volleyball
