Love delivers Perk Valley past OJR in OT

Brian Love finished a feed from Alfredo Grimaldi with 2:12 left in the overtime period to lift the Perkiomen Valley boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Owen J. Roberts in a Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division matchup on Wednesday night.

Matt Holmes opened the scoring 18 minutes into regulation while OJR’s Kyle Storti evened it up with 3:39 left in regulation. For the game, PV keeper Josh Moyer made six saves while OJR’s Ryan Walker finished with five. PHOENIXVIL­LE 2, UPPER MERION 1 » The Phantoms prevailed in a PAC Frontier matchup in overtime after getting scores from JT Stevens and Kyle Flick. Cole O’Neill had an assist on the winning goal. SPRING-FORD 6, NORRISTOWN 0 » Brandon Duke and Evan Hang scored two goals each to fuel the Rams’ win over the Eagles in PAC Liberty action. Aiden Hudon and Brett Gulati also found the net while assists were earned by Nolan Schweitzer (2), Colton Pollock and Duke. Goalie Ray Fortebuono made three saves in the clean sheet. ner made 10 stops in the PJP goal. POTTSGROVE 9, POTTSTOWN 0» Ryan Curnew and Ethan Pace each scored pairs of goals to lead the Falcons’ potent offense in their PAC victory over the Trojans.

Rounding out Pottsgrove’s scoring were solo tallies from Kevin Mendez, Shane Gleason, Sebastian Paez, Josh Cerrito and Landon Shivak.

1» The Falcons rallied in the second half to top the crosstown Trojans in a PAC Frontier play.

Skylar Glass scored twice and Lana Sorg capped the scoring for Pottsgrove while assists were credited to Emily Vishio, Hailey Strain and Hannah Phillips. Shannon’s unassisted tally supported the two save shutout goaltendin­g of Stacy Kormos. Hannah Landis and Sierra Fretz shared goaltendin­g duties for UP, recording seven and six saves, respective­ly. OWEN J. ROBERTS 2, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1 » First-half goals by Bailey Hunt and Sarah Kopec proved enough for the Wildcats to outlast the Vikings in their PAC game.

Hunt was assisted on her tally by Kenzie Milne, and Kopec’s was unassisted. Sydney Marasco scored in the second half for PV, with Colleen O’Brien on the assist. PHOENIXVIL­LE 6, UPPER MERION 2 » Gabrielle Perrotto and Sydney Goodhart each had hat tricks as the Phantoms knocked off the Vikings in PAC Frontier Division action.

Perrotto also had an assist on the night, while Morgan Beatty added a pair of assists of her own in the win. Freshman goalkeeper Ella Stout recorded four saves on the night to pick up the win.

Upper Merion’s goals came on an own goal and a long-range strike by Emma Wellington. BOYERTOWN 2, METHACTON 0» Samantha Goffice and Maggie Kiene each scored a goal, and Megan Knier had an assist to lead the Bears (1-0, 1-1) over the Warriors in PAC Frontier Division action.

Liz Greene had nine saves for Methacton, and Maddie Gallagher made five to secure the shutout.

Boys cross country

OWEN J. ROBERTS 25, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 32 » While Tyler Clifford gave the Vikings top race honors, the Wildcats placed six in the first 10 for a victory in their first PAC meet under head coach Tim Marcoe.

Linus Blatz (17:32) and Matthew Muthler (17:35) went 2-3 for Roberts behind Clifford’s winning 17:24 run. Ethan Ribelin was fourth for PV in 17:37, followed by OJR’s Thomas Damiani (fifth, 17:40).

Girls cross country

OWEN J. ROBERTS 28, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 29 » The Wildcats used displacers to secure a close victory over the Vikings in their first PAC meet under head coach Tim Marcoe.

Roberts, getting a second from Hannah Kopec (21:27), fourth from Makenzie Kurtz (22:12) and fifth from Kali Van Druff (22:17), placed runners in the eighth to 13th spots led by Mikayla Niness (22:35). Jocelyn Rotay gave PV race honors in 21:18 while Delaney O’Sullivan followed in third (22:01).

Field hockey

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2, OWEN J. ROBERTS 1 » Saige Shine finished a feed from Danielle Hamm in overtime to lift the Vikings to a PAC Liberty Division match against the Wildcats.

Shine finished with a goal and an assist in the win, adding a helper on Katie Wuerstle’s goal during the first half. Jenna Kirby accounted for OJR’s lone goal. SPRING-FORD 9, NORRISTOWN 0 » Kate Crist and Lexi Kwiej each registered three points to lead the Ram to a PAC win over the Eagles.

Crist and Kwiej each finished with a goal and two assists while Alexa Collins scored twice in the win. Caroline Todd (assist), Mackenna Maloney, Abbey Boyer, Kylie Martin and Haley Cole (assist) each finished with a goal for SpringFord. UPPER PERKIOMEN 12, POPE JOHN PAUL II 0 » Abrianna Gatto had a hand in six goals as the Tribe dropped the Golden Panthers in a PAC Frontier Division matchup.

Gatto scored three times and added three assists while Margo May scored four goals for Upper Perk. Kylene Gooch added a pair of scores while Morgan Fiorito, AiYi Young and Takoda Wells each finished with a goal and an assist. Carly Eidle and Lynnsi Joyce combined for five saves for the shutout. Pottstown’s Courtney Bratten scored 3-1/2 minutes into the game before Bailey Murphy evened it up 10 minutes in. Amanda Stone finished with 12 saves for Pottsgrove.

Boys golf

OWEN J. ROBERTS 192, UPPER PERKIOMEN 220 » Ryan Glenn fired a round-best 2-over 36 to lead the Wildcats to a PAC win over the Tribe at Kimberton G.C.

Conrad Benford, Nick Massa, Ben Samuelson and Sam Diehl all finished up at 39. MacCauley Swenk led Upper Perk with a 38 while Deion Doperak and Dan States each finished at 44. METHACTON 198, BOYERTOWN 209 » Turning in four of the five lowest scores, the Warriors handled the Bears in their PAC match.

Behind the 38s of coleaders Jeff Cooper (Methacton) and John Engle (Boyertown), the Warriors got 39s from A.J. Thomas and Dylan Lasecki and a 40 from Andrew Catania. Zach Little was next for Boyertown at 41. PHOENIXVIL­LE 201, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 214 » While Andrew Burkhardt claimed low-man honors for the Vikings, the Phantoms turned in four of the next five cards to secure their PAC victory at Pickering Valley.

Behind Burkhardt’s twoover-par 38, Phoenixvil­le got 39s from P.J. Sullivan and Kyle Resuta and a 40 from Mitchell Schwartz. Bryan Maguire followed with a 41, matching PV’s C.J. Bono. Teagan Duffie finished at 52 for Boone followed by Ben Sjoster (53), Colton Yenser (54) and Chase Ring (60).

Girls tennis

OWEN J. ROBERTS 4, PHOENIXVIL­LE 3 » Doubles depth allowed the Wildcats to prevail over the Phantoms in a PAC match. Lien Nguyen and Loretta Jansen scored the decisive win at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, to complete a doubles sweep and swing the match on OJR’s favor. Straight-set doubles wins came from Julia Brennan and Madeline Zarkoski (No. 1), Cara Semach and Maria Monteleone (No. 2) and Paige Cadieux-Petrie and Jackie McGee (No. 4).

Phoenixvil­le rolled in singles play, getting a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 from Julia Gumieniak over Elaina Lee while Gina Brown and Alex Rieg were straight-set winners at Nos. 2 and 3, respective­ly. METHACTON 7, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 » The Warriors swept the Indians in a PAC match, dropping just one game at singles via wins by Dina Nouaime (No. 1), Tina Prince (No. 2) and Karen Li (No. 3). SPRING-FORD 7, BOYERTOWN 0» The Rams ran away with a sweep of the Bears in this PAC matchup.

Tori Alexander played to a 6-0, 6-0 decision at first singles while Kathryn Alvarez and Isabel Mejia picked up wins at second and third singles, respective­ly. The first doubles pairing of Rachel Reiniger and Casey Goldsten posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision while Hannah Sharkey and Breanna Weigelt posted a 6-0, 6-0 decision at fourth doubles. POTTSGROVE 7, POTTSTOWN 0» The Falcons dropped just six games in four contested duels as they swept the Trojans in their PAC match.

Grace Myers at third singles, and the doubles team of Makenzie Murray and Jenny Patel recorded 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. Pottstown’s best individual showing came at first singles, where Sierra Everett won four games.

Girls volleyball

POPE JOHN PAUL II 3, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 » The Golden Panthers swept the Wildcats, 25-23, 25-22, 25-13.

PJP leaders were: Hanna Tulli (11 kills, 2 blocks), Madeline Mulcahey (9 kills, 6 digs and 1 ace), Haley Spotts (9 kills, 1 block, 7 digs, 11 service points), Chelsea Harvey (20 assists, 6 digs), Maddie Lesinski (17 assists, 6 digs) and Simone Sparano (13 digs).

OJR leaders were Michelle Frank (5 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs), Mikayla Johnson (8 kills, 3 digs) and Jordyn Chambers (2 kills, 16 assists, 2 digs). METHACTON 3, NORRISTOWN 0» The Warriors picked up a PAC win over the Eagles in straight sets.

Set scores were 25-11, 2517 and 25-16. Emma Eglinton posted 16 assists with an ace a kill and a block while Carli Ginther had 15 digs and an ace. Lauren Stanley posted five kills, four digs, two aces, an assist and a block while Melinda Eglinton had eight kills. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3, SPRING-FORD 1 » The Vikings won in four sets, 2519, 25-16, 28-30, 25-15.

Leading the way for Perk Valley was Sarah Straub (13 kills, six aces). Grace Herbein added eight kills, four aces and 22 assists while Isabel Clauhs had eight kills and 18 digs.
