Michael E. Smith of Berwyn

Michael E. Smith, 62, of Berwyn, PA passed away suddenly on September 2nd, 2018. Mike is survived by his wife and best friend of 38 years, Anne, his loving children Chris, Matt and Catie, his mother Gladys, and brother Jeffrey.

Mike spent his early years in Nantmeal, PA and graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School. He received an undergraduate degree from Lynchburg University and his MS from Drexel University. Mike started his true business career at Microdot and eventually ascended to serve as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the publicly traded Checkpoint Systems, Inc. While his business accomplishments were notable, it was his love for family and friends that will be remembered most. Mike was an enthusiastic supporter of his children’s endeavors and took great pride in their academic and athletic accomplishments. No matter the distance or circumstance, Mike was always there to celebrate his children’s successes, and comfort them in times of failure. Mike’s most enjoyable moments were the vacations he took with his family and the dinners he shared with the ones he loved. In the times not spent with family, Mike found happiness in gardening, walking on trails, and playing tennis and basketball.

There will be visitation at Alleva Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, September 8th from 10-12, followed by a few words from the family at noon. The burial will be private. Alleva Funeral Home, Inc. is located at 1724 East Lancaster Avenue in Paoli, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Easttown Township Emergency Services (Berwyn and Paoli Fire Company), the Upper Main Line YMCA and the Main Line Animal Rescue.
