This is for Deedee. I’m also a senior citizen. My three grandchildren go to school. They have to pay for breakfast and lunch. It is not free. So no you are not paying for them and P.S. you are not losing your home because of this. —AM

I’d like to know as a homeowner in Pottstown why we can’t choose our own trash pick-up service? Why does it have to be done through the Borough of Pottstown? I don’t understand that. Someone please let me know.

To the person talking about work and unemployment, you might follow your own advice and keep your comments to yourself. —Bob Not From Mont Clare

If you watched the SCOTUS confirmation hearings on Thursday you would have seen Corey Booker make a complete fool of himself. He was obnoxiously demanding information that was already granted to him, all an act for the cameras. The more I see and hear him the more he reminds me of Obama, the worst president in our lifetime. I wonder if he thinks we have 59 states like “Barry” does. —Embarrassed Democrat

At what point does free speech cross the line to sedition? Mere days after be-clowning themselves with self-serving editorials and dispelling the notion of fake news, media nationwide were compelled to retract the latest Trump “collusion” story. Given a pattern and practice of manufacturing news in the interest of toppling a duly elected president, retractions are not sufficient. —Mark Furlong

This is to the Sound Off anonymous caller who said that when Trump passes there will be dancing in the streets, parades and fireworks. You are stooping so low, shame on you, as to be on the same level of the Palestinians in Israel who were dancing in the streets to celebrate the destruction of the Twin Towers and the killing of over 3,000 Americans. Shame on you, shame on you. You don’t deserve to be a citizen.

To the people still believing all of Trump’s lies, his lawyers just confirmed that he is incapable of telling the truth. Maybe the believers will finally realize that he’s lying to you. Maybe it will take that one lie that’s personal to you, maybe not. Some will continue to believe. Even if it’s not true they like what he’s saying.

It was commendable that Martha defended her faith especially with the serious problems in the Catholic church today. Because there is a percentage of priests who have lost their way does not change the fact the way millions have believed their entire lives. It has to be like a punch in the stomach. The more serious problem now that there was not before is the pope is being mentioned and he’s not defending himself. — Clark S. Kent

I’m a concerned Pottstown citizen wondering why a Philadelphia criminal gets housing in Pottstown and I’m just curious as to why they’re sending him up here to get free housing and medical when he got in trouble in Philadelphia? —Concerned

I see Phoenixville was spraying for mosquitoes with a supposedly safe spray by the EPA. The mosquito has many diseases and among them E.coli and others. Why hasn’t our government the last six years increased the bat population which is more ecofriendly and cheaper than paying the drug companies to find a vaccine for an overpriced drug to kill the virus? A bat eats 1,000 mosquitoes an hour and lives up to 40 years. —500 Miler

Shoe companies and rich athletes believe in money but many signers of the Declaration of Independence sacrificed everything as they were hunted down by the British. Every war and military battle had some men and women who sacrificed everything. They gave their lives. Witness Iwo Jima where Marines put up the flag after ferocious battle. You can visit the memorial which is located near Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.

Isn’t it amazing when a person is elected whether it be for church, council, school board, governor, senator, they think they’re elected to spend money? When was the last time anybody who ran saying they’re going to cut budgets, actually did? Perhaps we’d be better off if we had less politicians and more working people in government.

Byron York’s column in Thursday’s Mercury said that there is too much secrecy in government. So true. People are arguing and fighting but they only know one-tenth of the truth about a public figure. The press makes heroes and villains and we soak it up. All lies.

What did I hear that Mr. Wolf has been giving up his salary and his pension? The pension alone is $200,000 a year after he retires and his salary is about $175,000. Sounds pretty good to me. I guess I’ll re-elect him.

The big difference between John McCain and Donald Trump is McCain ran for president and lost, Trump ran for president and won. Sound Off is a forum to spur dialogue from residents of the communities we serve on topics of interest in those communities. Fair game are comments that raise issues of note or amplify ongoing debates.
