Trash hauler to open job center in Pottstown
Solid waste and recycling company opening High Street recruitment, training center
POTTSTOWN » J.P. Mascaro & Sons will be opening a recruiting and training center Sept. 17 at 221 E. High Street in Pottstown, in response to ongoing growth of the company.
The center is the first recruitment and training facility for the company, which is currently expanding its operations in Berks County. The facility will serve as a hub to hire and train those seeking a stable career with Mascaro, according to the company.
“As a leader in the solid waste and recycling industry, we are continually bolstering our work force to meet business demands. Our company is growing and with that growth the need for exceptional employees is imperative,” Director of Human Resources Pasquale Mascaro Jr. said in a press release. “We pride ourselves on our quality product and our excellent customer service. To guarantee we maintain this standard, we have set up this center to create the top work force our clients expect.”
Once open, the Pottstown office will be staffed with several Mascaro employees, according to spokesman Frank Sau. Applicants will be able to move through the hiring process — from application to training — at one location.
“They can come in and learn about the company. We have an application room for prospective employees. They can interview and meet face to face with recruiters,” Sau said. “And depending on what type of job we’re recruiting for, we have various training classes,” Sau said in a recent interview.
In addition, Sau said the company will provide a shuttle to take new employees from the E. High Street location to their jobsites on a daily basis.
Pottstown was the right
choice for the facility, according to Sau, because of its location in relation to four area divisions operated by the company: Pioneer Crossing in Exeter, TotalRecycle in Exeter and its two hauling divisions in Souderton and Mt. Penn.
“We’re trying to solve some of our own issues. We’re growing like wildfire,” he said, adding that the TotalRecycle facility on Lincoln Road in Exeter has added a second shift to its operations — resulting in the addition of 60 new jobs at that facility alone.
Among the positions the company is recruiting for are: drivers, laborers, diesel technicians, mechanics, operators, office help and sales representatives.
“We are offering a stable career. The job market is getting better, but we’re not offering contract or parttime work. We’re looking to fill full-time jobs with room for advancement,” Sau said. “We are a jobs creator. We have been in business for more than 50 years. We understand the business and need talent.”
The E. High Street location has space for about seven offices as well as a classroom area — all located on the first floor of the building, according to Sau.
Initially, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday starting Sept. 17. Sau said he does expect the hours of operation to be adjusted a bit once things get up and running, to reflect work schedules.
While not open yet, the signage on the building was attracting some attention on Monday, with several people stopping to read the positions J.P. Mascaro is looking to fill, as they walked by.
Until the office opens on Monday, Sept. 17, Sau said interested applicants can visit www.jpmascaro.com/ or call 1-888-627-2276 for more information about the new facility or positions the company is looking to fill.
