Hill School holds off Pennington

Lombard, Sullivan, Forrest score as Blues improve to 1-1

The Hill School boys soccer team emerged from a 1-1 halftime break with two quick goals then held on to claim a 3-2 non-conference win over Pennington School on Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 early, Hale Lombard answered for The Hill by drawing a penalty and converting it in the 13th minute. Aidan Sullivan converted a free kick from outside the box to give the Blues a 2-1 lead in the 46th minute, a lead they then extended through Euan Forrest with an assist from Zach Barrett. Mansour Diop and Nico Herrerias each scored for Pennington. Blake Groff made six saves for The Hill (1-1 overall), including one on the final minute on Diop. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3, POTTSGROVE 0 » Goals by Max Chamorro and Anthony Pellerito keyed the Vikings’ shutout of the Falcons in their Pioneer Athletic Conference crossover game.

The goals by Chamorro (12th minute, assisted by Mark Pirrone) and Pellerito (77th minute, assisted by Matt McCabe) bookended an own goal by Pottsgrove in the 36th minute. Josh Moyer needed to make just two saves to give Perk Valley the clean sheet, and Luke Kaiser had three-save goaltendin­g for the Falcons.

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 1, ABINGTON FRIENDS 0 » Maddy Springman’s goal in the 64th minute broke the scoreless tie and delivered the Panthers to a nonconfere­nce win over Abington Friends.

Abbey Glavin finished with eight saves in goal to preserve the shutout.

Boys cross country

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 15, NORRISTOWN 50 » The Vikings claimed each of the first 10 spots on the way to a PAC Liberty Division win over the Eagles.

Tyler Clifford crossed the finish line first with a time of 17:38, shortly followed by Dylan Danowski (17:46) and Ethan Ribelin (17:48). Riley Milligan finished up at 18:01 before Calvin Ribelin took fifth at 18:45. POPE JOHN PAUL II 20, POTTSGROVE 36 » Jack Phillips led a 1-2-3 finish by the Golden Panthers as they outran the Falcons in their PAC Frontier Division race.

Phillips covered the Pottsgrove layout in 18:11, followed by teammates Jack Brosius (18:20) and Kaden Buchler (18:26). Branden Henriksen was the Falcons’ top runner, placing fourth in 19:09. UPPER PERKIOMEN 21, UPPER MERION 37 » Gabe Pitcher claimed individual race honors for the Indians in their PAC Frontier Division victory over the Vikings.

Pitcher clocked an 18:13 on his home course, beating out UM’s Jack Larkin (18:20). Lance Templeton, Donnie Miller and Blandin Conklin went 3-4-5 for UP with respective times of 18:52, 18:54 and 19:00.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 15, NORRISTOWN 50 » The Vikings claimed each of the top 10 times during a PAC Liberty Division win over the Eagles.

Delaney O’Sullivan crossed first with a time of 21:44 followed by Emma Alexy, Jocelyn Rotay and Megan Furlong, who all finished at 23:22. Maddy Foster crossed at 23:50 while Anna Ferraro posted a 24:02. POPE JOHN PAUL II 20, POTTSGROVE 35 » Though Naomi Hillen claimed individual race honors for the Falcons, the Golden Panthers took the next six spots to secure victory in this PAC Frontier Division race.

After Hillen crossed the line in 22:03, Gianna Cagliola placed second in 22:39 to lead the PJP charge. Natalie Florig (22:56), Katy Todd (23:25), Claudia Dolan (23:39) and Tess Crossan (24:08) had a 3-6 run. Pottsgrove took the last four spots in the Top 10 with Calista Faust seventh in 24:20. UPPER MERION 23, UPPER PERKIOMEN 36 » Serena Detweiler ran away with first place for the Indians, but the Vikings used a 2-3 finish and seven of the Top 10 to score the team victory in this PAC Frontier Division event.

Detweiler had the day’s lone sub-22 run, a 21:51 on her home course. Veronica Sanchez followed Detweiler in second place (22:38) and Claire Doan was third for UM in 23:13 ahead of UP’s Natalia Curley (fourth, 23:20).

Field hockey

SPRING-FORD 1, PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 » Aubrie Breisblatt’s goal at the 2:45 mark of the second half enabled the Phantoms to pull even with the Rams and force a tie in their PAC divisional crossover game.

Kate Crist put SpringFord ahead at the 21:44 mark of the second, converting a penalty stroke. Ashley Della Guardia gave the Rams 13-save goaltendin­g while Abby Delgrosso made nine stops for Phoenixvil­le, which had 14-10 and 10-9 edges in shots on goal and corners, respective­ly. METHACTON 7, POTTSTOWN 0» The Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the half then cruised to victory in a PAC matchup against the Trojans.

Frankie Lucchesi (two assists), Katy Benton, Alexa Kratz, Grace Hirst, Reilly Smith, Sammy Fuchs and Elena Snodgrass all scored for Methacton. Chaisy Jules and Lillian Stirk combined for 18 saves for Pottstown. UPPER PERKIOMEN 10, NORRISTOWN 0 » Colleen Creneti netted a hat trick while Abrianna Gatto and AiYi Young scored two goals apiece as the Tribe blanked the Eagles during this PAC divisional crossover matchup.

Upper Perk (3-1 overall) led 8-0 by the half. Michaela Greczek, Kylene Gooch and Margo May rounded out the scoring with a goal each. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 12, POTTSGROVE 0 » Katie Wuerstle and Saige Shine each scored twice as the Vikings blew past the Falcons in this PAC divisional crossover matchup.

Gabrielle Muschert and Anna Dawson each added a goal and an assist while Gabby Martina, Kelly Battinger, Teresa Bartkowski, Olivia Keyte, Emily Carney and Maddy Meehan were each credited with solo goals. Pottsgrove keeper Amanda Stone made nine saves in the cage. BOYERTOWN 10, UPPER MERION 0 » Trin Smith netted a hat trick while Laura Wigand made seven saves to preserve the shutout in the Bears’ win over the Vikings in cross-divisional PAC play.

Alyssa Vu, (assist), Kelsi McDevitt, Remi Lloyd, Lauren Eves (assist), Lindsay Flack (assist), Mackenzie Baro and Alex Morgan all notched goals for Boyertown in the win. OWEN J. ROBERTS 12, POPE JOHN PAUL II 0 » Jenna Kirby and Bridget Gallagher registered three points apiece on the way to a PAC crossdivis­ional win over the Golden Panthers.

Kirby netted a hat trick while Gallagher had a pair of goals and an assist as OJR jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the half. Olivia Leclaire and Maddi Koury scored two goals apiece while Eloise Gebert and Julia Lamb each had a goal and an assist. Emily Himmelreic­h rounded out the scorers with a goal while Raina Smolij and Rylee Laloup each had assists.

DANIEL BOONE 204, FLEETWOOD 234 » Colton Yenser shot a 1-over 47 to lead the Blazers to a Berks Conference win over the Tigers during their 12-hole match at Arrowhead Blue.

Ben Sjosten and Teagan Duffie each finished up at 51 for Boone (5-5 overall), while Evan Pingitore shot a 55. Chase Ring and Braylon Kuhn rounded out the winning scorecard, each firing a 58. Jake Hess and Nick Fry both finished up at 58 to lead Fleetwood. RADNOR 177, SPRING-FORD 188 » David Colleran fired a 2-under 34 as the Raiders topped the Rams in a nonconfere­nce match at Turtle Creek.

Jack Hamilton and Davis Flanney followed Colleran each finishing at 35 while Blake Stephano (36) and James Quinn (37) rounded out the scorecard for Radnor. Axel Kalbach fired a team-best 36 for SpringFord while Luke Watson finished up at 37.

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 183, HATBORO-HORSHAM 204 » Lily Byrne shot a roundbest 43 to lead the Whippets to a PAC win over the Hatters.

Rosie Byrne followed with a 46 while Maddie Perkins and Rachel Schneberge­r each finished up at 47.

Girls tennis

POTTSGROVE 7, COATESVILL­E 0 » Mya Krueger’s 6-0, 6-1 decision at first singles set the tone in the Falcons’ non-conference sweep of the Raiders.

Alex Harvey and Jaelyn Kennedy picked up wins at second and third singles, respective­ly. The doubles pairing of Mackenzie Murphy/Grace Myers posted a 6-0, 6-2 decision at first singles.

Girls volleyball

OWEN J. ROBERTS 3, POTTSGROVE 0 » The Wildcats topped the Falcons in a PAC Frontier Division matchup.

Set scores were 2510, 25-10 and 25-20. Michelle Frank had an ace, seven kills and a dig for OJR while Catherine Cervi posted three kills and three blocks. Mikayla Johnson led the team with six kills and three aces, Gabi Tamburro had seven aces, three kills and a block while Jordyn Chambers had an ace and 22 assists. BOYERTOWN 3, DANIEL BOONE 0 » The Bears won this non-league pairing by set scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-16.

Boyertown (6-1) was led by Emma Ludwig (six kills, eight assists, three aces). Julia Smith had nine digs and Taylor Jones added four assists, three digs and three kills. PHOENIXVIL­LE 3, MARPLE NEWTOWN 0 » The Phantoms beat non-conference opponent Marple Newtown by straight set scores of 2513, 25-14 and 25-11.

Kayla Grammersto­rf posted five aces, five kills and three digs while Keara Hennessey had 14 aces, 17 assists and four kills. Romina Broglia had nine kills and six digs while Hayden Perrone added nine digs.

Boys water polo

John Nelligan and Tiernan Brunner combined to outscore the entire Friars’ lineup and get the Blues their first victory over Malvern since 2008.

Nelligan scored six goals, assisted on one, blocked two shots from the field, stole two balls and won two sprints. Brunner finished with five goals, two assists, two steals, and a field block, and Michael Schiavone put away four, Yeob Kim contribute­d six-save goaltendin­g in addition to assisting on two Hill tallies.
