Koury, OJR field hockey top Upper Perk, 5-1

Maddi Koury scored two goals and assisted on another to steer the Owen J. Roberts field hockey team to a 5-1 Pioneer Athletic Conference divisional crossover victory over Upper Perkiomen on Wednesday.

Koury was assisted on her second tally by Bridget Gallagher, and she assisted on Julia Lamb’s goal. Natalie Fuertsch and Olivia LeClaire also scored for OJR, with other assists credited to Jenna Kirby and Lamb.

Upper Perk’s goal came from Kylene Gooch, with AiYi Young on the assist.

Cayden Jarvis made two goalie saves for OJR and Carly Eidle had five for UP.

Roberts outshot the Indians 9-5 and had a 7-6 edge in corners.

POTTSTOWN 1, CHICHESTER 1 » Courtney Bratten scored the Trojans’ lone goal during their non-conference tie with the Eagles.

Lillian Stirk finished with four saves for Pottstown. SOUDERTON 3, METHACTON 1» The Warriors dropped a non-conference matchup against Indians.

Liz Chipman scored Methacton’s lone goal off a feed from Frankie Lucchesi while Molly Frey made 17 saves in the cage. ACADEMY OF NOTRE DAME 2, THE HILL SCHOOL 2 » The Hill rallied from two goals down to earn a hard-fought tie with Academy of Notre Dame, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation according to Max Field Hockey.

Logan Clouser scored both Hill goals in the second half to level the match after Notre Dame got goals from Lauren Curran and Sophia Amos.

Co-captain Tatumn Eccleston and Madison Orsi were defensive standouts while freshman goalkeeper Hayley Gable impressed with 17 saves.

Boys cross country

UPPER PERKIOMEN 25, POTTSGROVE 31 » Race winner Gabe Pitcher led the Indians to a tight PAC win over the Falcons.

Pitcher won in 18:35, followed by Pottsgrove’s Bryce Hampton (18:41) and Simon Keen (18:44) in second and third. Upper Perk went 4-6 through Brandon Conklin (18:53), Lance Templeton (19:04) and Donnie Miller (19:06). OWEN J. ROBERTS 18, NORRISTOWN 42 » David Brunton led a tight pack that underscore­d the Wildcats’ win over the Eagles in their PAC Liberty Division race.

Brunton’s 18:36 clocking was one second better than freshman teammate Thomas Damiani’s 18:37. Andrea Cambiati, Matt Kwiatkowsk­i and Andrew Lagrech went 4-5-6 around Norristown’s Ricardo Moreno, third in 19:15.

Girls cross country

POTTSGROVE 21, UPPER PERKIOMEN 37 » Naomi Hillen was the runaway race winner to lead the Falcons to a PAC victory. Hillen finished in 23:00, 44 seconds ahead of second-place Calista Faust of Pottsgrove (23:44).

Upper Perk placed third and fourth through Serena Detweiler (23:48) and Alex Banner (23:51) while Pottsgrove took the next four spots thanks to Molly Neeson (24:20), Chloe Sullivan (24:25), Amie Wildermuth (24:45) and Angelia Hollinger (25:25). OWEN J. ROBERTS 15, NORRISTOWN 50 » Hannah Pugh headed a seven-runner pack that set the tone for the Wildcats’ PAC Liberty Division romp over the Eagles.

Pugh covered her home course in 24:08, three seconds ahead of teammates Emily Glasier and Charley Lustig. Ali Avello-Lango, Bridget DiCesare, Jeanne Tokay and Grace Kratz completed the OJR pack.

Boys soccer

MALVERN PREP 1, HILL SCHOOL 0 » Corey Brunner’s goal in the 62nd minute was the difference in the Friar’s non-league win over Hill.

Hill goalies Blake Groff and Alan Kim had three saves apiece. Malvern Prep’s Will Reckmeyer and Austin Coron combined for 5 saves.

POPE JOHN PAUL II 1, MARPLE NEWTOWN 1 » Mary Kate Shannon put PJP on top 13 minutes in but Marple’s Rebecca Ritchie leveled in the first half, which is how the non-league match ended. Julia Hull assisted on Shannon’s score while PJP keeper Stacy Kormos had three saves. POTTSGROVE 2, METHACTON 1» Becca Delp scored a goal with two minutes left in the overtime period to deliver the Falcons a PAC divisional crossover win against the Warriors.

Kate Evans opened the game with a score for Methacton in the first half while Eliana Paez evened it up with five minutes left in regulation. Summer Walker made five saves in goal for the win. BOYERTOWN 4, DANIEL BOONE 0 » The Bears led by three goals in the first half, two by Samantha Goffice, and went on to shutout the Blazers in non-league play.

Aimee Toscano and Maddie Gallagher, the Bears’ starting goalie, also scored for Boyertown.

POTTSGROVE 216, UPPER PERKIOMEN 217 » With the first four on each team all even, the fifth-place score proved the difference for the Falcons in their narrow PAC victory over the Indians at Macoby Run G.C.

Brett Pennington carded a 45 for Pottsgrove, one better than UP’s Tyler Lewandowsk­i. A three-way tie for low-man honors emerged between the Falcons’ Jinsok Kraybill and UP’s Macauley Swenk and Zach Gehman. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 204, BOYERTOWN 222 » The Vikings had three players part of a four-way tie for lowscore honors, and they factored in a victory over the Bears at Hickory Valley G.C.

C.J. Bono, Ryan Horenci and Gabe Gentleman all turned in 40s as PV reported five of the day’s seven lowest rounds. John Engle also checked in at 40 for Boyertown, with Brandon Staniszews­ki following at 41. SPRING-FORD 184, OWEN J. ROBERTS 186 » Conrad Benford’s notable round led the Wildcats to a PAC victory over the Rams at Kimberton G.C.

Benford scored a one-under-par 33 for OJR, which included 37s by Jack Murray and Nick Massa. Luke Watson had an even-par 34 to lead Spring-Ford, which had Axel Kalbach at 36 and Drew Clifford at 37. DANIEL BOONE 145, FLEETWOOD 162 » Colton Yenser claimed low-man honors for the Blazers in their Berks Conference match with the Tigers at Pleasant Hills G.C.

Yenser carded a 35 for Boone, which got 36s from Teagan Duffie and Evan Pingitore. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 215, COLLEGIUM 272 » Drew Steinmetz and Ben Griffaton shared low-man honors for the Panthers as they opened their season with a victory over Collegium Charter at Ingelside G.C.

Steinmetz and Griffaton checked in with one-overpar 34s. Perkiomen’s other scorers were Zach Smith (41), Thomas Dormer (47) and Aidan Carr (59). MALVERN PREP 238, HILL SCHOOL 272 » Billy Gussler and Echo Wu were very competitiv­e at the top of the ladder, but the remainder of the team could not match up to Malvern Prep in this non-league match at Brookside C.C.

Girls golf

METHACTON 187, GREAT VALLEY 235 » The Warriors grabbed all four of the top scores on the way to a PAC win over the Patriots at Skippack G.C. (par-35).

Riley Thomas shot a match-best 42 followed by Ashley Liu (46), Jackie McCue (49) and Sarah Lawrie (50). Tori Bruno paced Great Valley with a teambest 56.

Girls tennis

OWEN J. ROBERTS 7, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 » Clean sweeps by Elaina Lee and Jacey Caplan during their matches first and second singles set the tone in the Wildcats’ PAC win over the Tribe.

Cara Semach rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at third singles. The doubles pairing of Julia Brennan/Madelin Zarkoski posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles while Maria Monteleone/ Lien Nguyen won 6-1, 6-0. POPE JOHN PAUL II 5, POTTSGROVE 2 » The Golden Panthers didn’t drop a set in singles in a PAC win over the Falcons.

Veronica Marinari, Jillian Boyle and Jordan Millers were straight-set winners at Nos. 1-3 singles, respective­ly. EXETER 4, DANIEL BOONE 3 » Winning three of five singles duels enabled the Eagles to edge the Blazers in their Berks Conference match.

Mallory Barndt and Rachael Haag were winners for Boone at second and third singles. Barndt and Haag also teamed up to win at second doubles. HILL SCHOOL 4, WESTTOWN 1» The Blues were headed by Elena Zhang’s play at first singles of their nonleague match with Westtown School.

Zhang handled Claire Burke 6-0, 6-1. Carla Canales added another Hill point at third singles.

Girls volleyball

OWEN J. ROBERTS 3, OXFORD 1» The Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie by winning two sets to handle Oxford in their nonleague match. Roberts’ set scores were 25-10, 25-18 and 25-16 around Oxford’s 25-17 victory in the second set.

Michelle Frank had one ace, 10 kills, one assist and two digs for OJR, which saw Mikayla Johnson add seven kills, one block and one dig. Jordyn Chambers chipped in with 30 assists, two aces and one kill. BOYERTOWN 3, GREAT VALLEY1» The Bears rebounded from an opening-set loss to handle the Patriots in nonleague action. Boyertown’s sets of 25-22, 27-25 and 2826 came after Great Valley scored a 25-23 victory in the opener.

Emily Wolfe had 10 kills for Boyertown. Taylor Jones added eight kills and Emma Ludwig seven.

Cheerleadi­ng

The Pottstown varsity cheer squad recently placed fourth at the Pine Forest Cheerleadi­ng Camp in Olyphant, Pa.

Senior Jailyn Davis received individual recognitio­n as she participat­ed in the UCA All-American Cheerleade­r tryout and was selected to attend the UCA Christmas Parade in Philadelph­ia.
