Area congregations schedule special services and events
Bally Menonite
Bally — A Pancake Breakfast including pancakes, French toast, sausage, scrapple, OJ, tea and coffee will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. today at Bally Mennonite Church, Route 100, in the church Fellowship Hall. The cost is a donation. Proceeds will provide funds for the Bally Community Preschool, which provides an excellent early childhood education experience for 3 to 5-year-olds, in a Christian environment.
Cedarville UMC
North Coventry — A Honey Festival will be sponsored by the Cedarville United Methodist Church, 1092 Laurelwood Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, rain or shine. This is the 8th annual event, and the Pennsylvania Honey Queen will be in attendance. It is a great event for family and kids and there is no admission fee. Learn about plants that attract bees and about harmful pesticides, view live bees, kids activities, local produce for purchase, local crafters and food.
Bethel UMC
Spring City — A Spaghetti Dinner will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church, 952 Bethel Church Road, in Fellowship Hall to support Bethel Christian Preschool.
Centennial Lutheran
Kimberton — Pastor Susan Sosnin will be bringing the message at the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Centennial Lutheran Church, 1330 Hares Hill Road, in Pastor Gerald Tancredi’s absence.
Christ Lutheran
Barto — Harvest Home will be celebrated during the 7:45 and 10:15 a.m. services on Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road. Rally Day will be held at 9 a.m. in the social hall between the services. This is open to all ages to learn about the exciting faith formation for the church.
Calvary UCC
Barto — The annual Blessing of the Pets will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100. This is open to the surrounding community and to our neighbors to enjoy our walking path with their pets. A collection will be held for the Animal Rescue League of Berks County and treats will be available for the animals who are present. Blessings will be offered to dogs, cats, rabbits, lizards, birds, and whatever other pets God brings to our time of gathering.
The Fall Flea Market, Craft Show and Bake Sale will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Outside spaces are available by contacting Becky at 267-261-8509 or emailing calvaryucc@gmail.com for a reservation form.
St. James Lutheran
Limerick — The youth of St. James Lutheran Church, 93 Kugler Road, will visit Mediator Lutheran Church in Philadelphia on Sunday morning. They will visit the church and worship with the congregation. Members of the youth groups met during the National Youth Gathering in Houston.
First UCC
Royersford — A Blessing of the Animals service will be held at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday outside (weather permitting, inside in the Social Hall if raining) at First United Church of Christ, 367 Washington St. Towels, canned dog and cat food, and pet toys will be collected for the SPCA.
St. Luke Lutheran
Gilbertsville — The Adult forum will follow the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Ave. Lorelai Ingram will make a presentation about her participation in the Lutheran Summer Music program
The Community Clothing Rack will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday for clothing distribution.
Shepherd of the Hills
Bechtelsville — H2O Youth from Shepherd of the Hills Church, 527 Hoffmansville Road, will travel to Jay Lanes for Laser Tag on Wednesday, leaving at 6:30 p.m.
Mount Carmel UMC
St. Peters — There will be refreshments available to all after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 2203 Harmonyville Road.

Bethel Community
Pottstown — It’s “Youth Empowerment Sunday” at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Community Church of Pottstown, 575 N. Keim St., with the youth leading in worship including the Youth Sounds of Praise Choir singing. Immediately following the service, the Board of Deacons and Youth Ministry under the leadership of Lee Ann Barkasi will host a “Farwell and Special Thanks” reception for Charles vester Wims, Youth Sounds of Praise musician. Members are encouraged to bring a “Card of Thanks.”
Trinity UCC
Pottstown — Sunday will mark the beginning of Children’s Church at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 60 N. Hanover St. Children ages 4 to 12 will attend church with their families and hear a special children’s sermon. After the talk, the children will be dismissed to their various Sunday School classes for the rest of worship time. Light refreshment will be served after the 9:30 a.m. service. All are welcome.
St. Peter’s Lutheran
Pottstown — The Apple Dumplings ordered during the previous weeks are ready for pickup after the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Worship Services at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 564 Glasgow St. Proceeds will benefit the Capital Campaign Appeal.
The Book Club meets at 7 p.m. on Monday at the home of The Rev. and Mrs. John Smolik, 1033 Grandview Circle, Kenilworth. Light refreshments will be served.
The Pottstown Community Meal will be served by the church under the supervision of Cindy Clouser at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 750 N. Evans St., Pottstown.
First Baptist
Pottstown —There will be a congregational meeting after the 10:45 a.m. church service on Sunday at First Baptist Church, Charlotte and King streets. There will be voting on several positions within the church and sharing important information with the congregation.
Brownback’s UCC
Spring City — All are welcome to remain after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday at Brownback’s United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Road, for Social Hour and the second of three Visioning Listening Sessions, hosted by the Vision Committee.
Grace Lutheran
Pottstown — The congregation will be led in worship by Interim Pastor Donna Wright for the final time at the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at Grace Lutheran Church, 660 N. Charlotte St., as she has accepted a call to another congregation. A social hour will follow in the parish hall.
Zion’s UCC
Pottstown — Keith Clattenburg, supply organist at Zion’s United Church Christ, Hanover and Chestnut streets, will lead the choir at the 10:15 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Soloist Laura Clattenburg will perform the offertory solo.
Pastor Austin Chinault will lead the opening confirmation class at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Students will receive their class notebooks to be used for the two-year course. Class will meet the third Sunday each month culminating on Pentecost Sunday May 30, 2020. Students will also share Sunday worship at least once a month with their mentors. Sunday School will be in session the remaining Sundays with Joan Miller.
