Gloria Rita Makoid, age 84, of Bridgeport, PA., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Bryn Mawr Terrace, with loving family members at her bedside.

Born in Bridgeport, Mrs. Makoid was the daughter of the late Joseph Almeida and the late Maria DeLeo Almeida, the devoted wife for over 57 years of the late Joseph A. Makoid, the beloved mother of Joseph (Cathy) of Doylestown, the late Michael, Kenneth (Lizanne) of Malvern, Diane Bush (Jeffrey) of Pottstown, Gerry (Joy) of Chester Springs, Brian (Dina) of Sanatoga, Tracey Trott (John) of North Hampton, N.H. and Maria Ditterline (Charles) of Collegevil­le. Mrs. Makoid was predecease­d by her brother and sister, as well as one of her grandchild­ren, the late Anthony Makoid. She also leaves behind 17 grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was a graduate and Valedictor­ian of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1952 and then continued her education at Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1955. She became a Registered Nurse and worked at Bryn Mawr Hospital for over 40 years as an operating room nurse, until her retirement in 2001.

She was a long-time devout member of Sacred Heart Church. At Sacred Heart, she served as an Extraordin­ary Minister of Holy Communion, a cantor, a lector and member of the choir. She was a tireless worker at the church’s Polish Festival and will be remembered for giving her Italian flavor to the festival by making and donating her famous meatballs. Gloria was also an avid sports fan, rooting for the Phillies, 76ers, Eagles, Villanova and Flyers. She loved spending time with her family especially watching her grandchild­ren and attending their activities, going to the casino, or just relaxing watching General Hospital.

Relatives and Friends are invited to her Viewings on Sunday, September 30, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and on Monday, October 1, from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, 305 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA., 19405, Keith J. Murphy, F.D., 610-275-6385 and her Funeral Mass on Monday, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg. Interment will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
