Pottsgrove, Pottstown field hockey tie 1-1 for second time this season

Their second meeting went just like the first.

The Pottsgrove and Pottstown field hockey teams staged a rematch Thursday on the Falcons’ home turf. And the encore to their previous 1-1 overtime tie was duplicated this time around.

Pottstown’s Courtney Bratten scored with an assist from Onjelay Nixon in under three minutes in the first half. The score remained unchanged until Jayde Yorgey was able to tie it up in under six minutes into the second half.

Lilian Stirk had six goalie saves for a Pottstown unit that was outshot by its neighborin­g rival (8-2) and headed in corner shots (4-2). Amanda Stone had a threesave day in goal for Pottsgrove. SPRING-FORD 8, NORRISTOWN 0 » Ashley Sessa and Mary-Pat McKenna each figured in on pairs of goals to help the Rams roll the Eagles in PAC Liberty Division play.

Sessa had two goals, and McKenna had a goal and assist, while helping SpringFord open a 6-0 first-half lead. Mackenna Maloney, Shannon Kennedy, Kylie Martin, Annalese Early and Peyton Nitto completed the Rams’ scoring with Olivia Wilson and Caroline Snyder getting credit for other assists. CONRAD WEISER 2, DANIEL BOONE 1 » Elena Tulli scored the winning goal with 6:48 left to lift the Scouts past the Blazers.

Morgan Kopcik scored the other goal for Conrad Weiser — they both came in the second half — and Mackenzie Ring had the goal for Daniel Boone.

UPPER PERKIOMEN 218, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 245 » The Indians won the annual bragging-rights duel with the Panthers at Macoby Run G.C.

While Drew Steinmetz gave Perkiomen low-man honors at 38, UP turned in the next six five scores behind Brett Miller’s 41 and Macauley Swenk’s 43. Don States followed with a 44, and Zach Rozanski and Zach Gehman with 45s.

PAC CHAMPIONSH­IPS » Downingtow­n East went 1-2 in the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s individual tournament at Gilbertsvi­lle G.C., heading the list of 11 golfers who’ve qualified for the District 1 tournament.

Liddie McCook led the way with a 73, followed by Ava O’Sullivan’s 79. Phoenixvil­le’s Morgan Frampton was the area’s highest finisher with an 80, and Spring-Ford’s Amelia DiCicco tied for seventh at 94.

DiCicco’s teammate, Aleena Ghanta tied for 10th with a 95. Methacton placed four individual alternates in Jackie McCue (12th, 96), Sarah Lawrie (tie 13th, 97), and Ashley Liu and Casey Walker (tie 15th, 98).

Sam Landis scored the first goal for West-Mont with 16 minutes left in the game, and he scored the goahead goal with just under two minutes left. Isaiah Fagan scored the other for the Wings.

Pottstown’s best individual showing came in the suspended first singles, where Sierra Everett won four games before the weather halted the proceeding­s three games into the second set. Julie Gumieniak, Gina Brown and Alex Rieg all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Phoenixvil­le lost just two games throughout the lineup. SPRING-FORD 4, OWEN J. ROBERTS 3 » The Rams’ sweep of the doubles bracket offset the Wildcats’ domination of singles for a narrow PAC win.

Spring-Ford’s best individual showing came from its fourth-doubles tandem of Hannah Sharkey and Breanna Weigelt, who scored a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Owen J. was headed by Elaina Lee’s 6-3, 6-3 showing at first singles.
