Top 4 seeds advance at PAC singles tournament

PAC SINGLES CHAMPIONSH­IPS » The top 4 seeds held true on Day 1 of the Pioneer Athletic Conference Singles Championsh­ips Friday at Perkiomen Valley.

Top seed Dina Nouaime of Methacton, No. 2 Elaina Lee of Owen J. Roberts, No. 3 Julia Gumieniak of Phoenixvil­le and No. 4 Tori Alexander of Spring-Ford advanced into the semifinals, which will be held back at PV Saturday morning.

Nouaime, last year’s runner-up, defeated OJR’s Jacey Caplan, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfin­als to set up a 2017 finals rematch with Spring-Ford’s Alexander, the defending champion, in the semifinals. Alexander blanked Perkiomen Valley’s Nadja Townsend, 6-0, 6-0, in the round of 8. Alexander won last year’s final 0-6, 6-3, 6-2, while the two did not meet in the regular season.

In the other half, Gumieniak topped Methacton’s Tina Prince, 6-2, 6-4. She’ll meet OJR’s Lee in the semifinals. The Wildcats’ No. 1 downed Phoenixvil­le’s Alex Rieg, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfin­als.

Along with the semifinals, district playback matches will feature Caplan vs. Townsend and Prince vs. Rieg. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 5, PHIL-MONT CHRISTIAN 0 » The Panthers lost just two games in singles play on the way to their non-league sweep of Phil-Mont.

Julia Kelly and Kate Galant won their respective first- and third-singles pairings by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Field hockey

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 0 » Cristina Dougherty scored a goal in each half as the Vikings maintained their unbeaten start (13-0) to the season.

Gabby Martina assisted late in the first half while Bryn Marcavage was on the helper midway through the second half for a PV insurance goal. Marcavage led the defensive effort, along with Gabby Muschert and Anna Dawson. PV led in shots 15-3 and corners 17-5. Goalie Ashley Derrick had three saves for the shutout. Counterpar­t Abby Martin had 12 saves. HILL SCHOOL 4, CARDINAL O’HARA 1 » Hill pulled away from their Catholic League opponent in a non-league win. Logan Clouser opened the scoring on a rebound of a Josephine Palde shot before Alex Conway extended the lead into halftime with her 11th goal of the year, assisted by Palde. Palde and Taylor Duffany scored in the second half as Hill improved to 5-2-1.

Boys soccer

BOYERTOWN 2, POTTSGROVE 0» Nick Willson and Antonio Toscano both scored in the final seven minutes of the first half to give the Bears a PAC crossover win over the Falcons.

Willson’s goal came on a free kick while he assisted Toscano’s score. Boyertown led 10-3 in shots. Mason Kurtz had the shutout while Pottsgrove keeper Luke Kaiser had eight saves. PHOENIXVIL­LE 4, NORRISTOWN 1 » Two goals in each half earned the Phantoms a PAC crossover win. Goals were supplied by JT Stevens (2), Keler Fuentes Garcia, and Kender Perez, who had an assist, as did Kyle Flick, RJ Wineburg, and Jake Perillo. Raul Martinez made five saves in his first varsity start.

Kevin Garcia scored for Norristown. METHACTON 4, UPPER MERION0» Chris Meehan scored twice, TJ Taylor had a goal and an assist and Brett Eberly also found the net for the Warriors. WEST-MONT CHRISTIAN 4, SALEM CHRISTIAN 1 » The Wings defeated Salem Christian, 4-1 in league play. Tyler Fox scored twice with Sam Landis and Ezra Fagan adding the other two.

Girls soccer

METHACTON 3, UPPER MERION 0 » Madia Mazzucola registered a goal and an assist in leading the Warriors to a PAC crossover win against the Vikings.

Julia McCann and Michaela Tommarello both added goals. Kirsten O’Brien and Kendall Ozorowski each figured in on assists while Methacton keeper Liz Greene needed just one save to preserve the shutout. Jordyn Skidds made 10 saves for Upper Merion. PHOENIXVIL­LE 9, NORRISTOWN 2 » Gabrielle Perrotto had a hat trick, and Morgan Beatty and Maddie White each added two goals as Phoenixvil­le knocked off Norristown.

Leeza Galli and Lucy Faunce also scored for Phoenixvil­le, while Emily Schools scored both goals for Norristown. OWEN J. ROBERTS 4, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0 » The Wildcats broke through in the second half with four goals over the final 40 minutes for a PAC crossover win.

Goals for undefeated OJR came from Veronica Roach, Sarah Kopec, Bailey Hunt and Kenzie Milne. BOYERTOWN 2, POTTSGROVE 1» Samantha Goffice struck twice in the second half to lead the Bears over the Falcons in a PAC crossover contest.

Girls volleyball

METHACTON 3, PHOENIXVIL­LE 1 » The Warriors won in four sets, 23-25, 25-21, 2516, 25-12. Methacton leaders were Emma Eglinton (32 assists, 3 aces, 13 digs), Hannah O’Donnell (35 digs, 2 aces), Sydney Zerbe (17 kills, 4 digs, 1 block), Andria Santangelo (8 kills) and Lauren Stanley (7 kills, 9 digs, 5 aces). Phoenixvil­le leaders were Keara Hennessey (4 aces, 5 kills, 26 assists, 14 digs), Kayla Grammersto­rf (21 kills, 20 digs) and Romina Broglia (3 kills, 12 digs). PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 3, WEST NOTTINGHAM 0 » The Panthers swept, 25-15, 25-13, 25-11. SALEM CHRISTIAN 3, WESTMONT CHRISTIAN 0 » Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, and 25-20. Lauren Houck recorded 17 digs and three aces in the match for the Wings.
