Lifelong Pottstown resident, Jon Chris Batten, passed away October 10, 2018, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Phoenixvil­le with his family by his side.

Jon is survived by his brother, Jere (Celebratio­n, Florida), sister, Jody (Pottstown), and sister Jan (Boyertown), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jon was born December 26, 1957, in Pottstown, to Gerald Frank and Mary Jane (Kutz) Batten. He was a graduate of Pottstown High School and Kutztown University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administra­tion.

From June 2014 until October 2017, Jon worked for DL Services Group Inc. in Fairview Village as a Dispatcher/Recruiter, gaining a reputation for his gift of gab. He often expressed a fond love for the job and his colleagues. Following his departure for cancer treatment, owners and employees frequently inquired about his well-being.

Growing up in Pottstown, Jon enjoyed a portion of his summers with his grandparen­ts in Dewey Beach, Delaware. Many of Jon’s early childhood antics are family-legendary, from treeclimbi­ng for a dance on the roof of a neighbor’s home to diving board stunts at North End Swim Club. He was a fitness buff and avid Philadelph­ia Eagles football fan, with neighbors reporting loud cheers from his home during the Eagles Super Bowl win.

In addition, Jon was a devoted uncle to his four youngest nieces – Gift, Assata, Noemi, and Michelline. He was a regular attendee at music and dance performanc­es and accompanie­d them to enjoy vacationin­g at Walt Disney World.

Jon attended First Baptist Church, King and Charlotte Streets, Pottstown. A memorial service will be held at the church on Monday, October 22 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private at the convenienc­e of the family.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society in Jon’s name will benefit others battling cancer. (www. cancer.org).
