Susan D. Burnett of Royersford

-

Susan D. (Drumheller) Burnett, 72, of Royersford, beloved wife of L. Nelson Burnett, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018.

Born on March 1, 1946 in Pottstown, PA, Susan was a daughter of the late Herbert L. Drumheller and the late Doris H. (Hartenstine) Drumheller. Susan attended Pottsgrove High School, Centenary College for Women (Hackettstown, NJ), and Ursinus College (Collegeville, PA), where she received a B.A. in English. Susan spoke fondly of her first job at the concession stand at Sunnybrook, the Pottstown ballroom, pool club, and restaurant owned by her late grandfather, Raymond C. Hartenstine. After college, she worked as a writer and producer for WCAU-TV before joining her father at Century 21 Drumheller. Susan remained in real estate for over 25 years, eventually becoming broker and owner of Century 21 Drumheller before going to work for Herb Real Estate. Later, she took a position as the membership and marketing director for Pottstown’s Tri-County Area Chamber of Commerce, a job that made great use of her unparalleled networking skills and knowledge of Pottstown.

A longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pottstown, Susan also served on the Pottstown Junior League and the Spat and Slipper Committee, and enjoyed volunteering with the food bank at the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities. Most of all, Susan loved spending time with family and friends. She had a profound capacity for warmth and kindness, and was a consummate hostess with an infectious laugh and a tremendous sense of humor. She was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by two daughters, Kathy E. Ochroch (Peter HiltonKingdon) and Meghan E. Burnett (Matthew Vitagliano), both of Philadelphia, and two sisters, Sallie A. Drumheller of Pottstown and Kay D. Rice (Stephen) of Redding, CT. Susan also had three much-adored grandchildren, Alexander, Louisa, and Leo, and many dear, devoted lifelong friends, cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, 594 Church Street, Royersford, where the Reverend Janelle Krais will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at the church. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Sunnybrook Ballroom, 50 Sunnybrook Road, Pottstown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her memory to the food bank at the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, 57 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, PA 19464 (https://www. pottstowncluster.org/). Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King Street in Pottstown, PA.
