Shelter seeks donations for rescued animals

PERKIOMENVILLE >> The Montgomery County SPCA is looking for donations at their Perkiomenville location to care for 240 animals that were rescued from an Upper Hanover home Thursday.

According to the Montgomery County SPCA about 240 animals were removed from a property in Upper Hanover Thursday morning. The animals rescued included ferrets, guinea pigs, turtles, snakes and even alligators and skunks. They are being cared for by the Montgomery County SPCA.

Authorities have not identified the homeowners but have told news outlets they are also the owners of a home in Macungie, Lehigh County, from which authorities removed over 100 other animals earlier this week. The animals included dogs, exotic birds, large snakes and fish. Those animals were taken in by the Lehigh County Humane Society, who said in a post Wednesday that they have secured temporary placement for the animals throughout the duration of the case.

The case is currently under investigation.

According to a post from the Montgomery County SPCA, the Perkiomenville facility is now asking for the public’s help in providing necessary items to care for the hundreds of animals they have taken in.

“As many of you may know, the Montgomery County SPCA executed a search warrant earlier today that resulted in the confiscation of upwards of 240 animals. We have been working diligently to care for these many animals, but we are now asking for your assistance,” read the post from Thursday on the facility’s Facebook page.

The facility is looking to provide the animals with items including green leaf lettuce and spring mix lettuce without spinach, as well as ferret, rat, guinea pig, and aquatic turtle food. Small animal accessories such as hammocks and chew toys will also be accepted and monetary donations toward the care of the animals are also welcome, the SPCA said.
