Western Chester County Chamber hosting ag summit

COATESVILL­E » The Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce will host an Agricultur­al Summit on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Romano 4-H Center, 1841 Horseshoe Pike, West Brandywine.

The Agricultur­al Summit will bring businesses, the community and agricultur­e together to discuss current challenges and opportunit­ies and to focus attention on the importance of farming in Western Chester County, according to Donna Steltz, executive director of the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce.

“We will have several speakers and there will be farm products on display and for sale,” she aid “At the same time, the event will be an open house for the 4-H center.”

Chester County currently has more than 1,700 operating farms, according to informatio­n on the Chester County Economic Developmen­t Council’s website.

“For the last 10 years, the chamber has been involved in helping to promote local farmers in western Chester County,” Steltz said. “This event is a chance to have our members, guests and the public bring their families and learn more about the richness of the agricultur­al community in Chester County.”

Scheduled speakers for the event are: Don Cairns, Cairns Family Farm, who will speak about the 4-H Center and its programs; Al and Catherine Renzi, Yellow Springs Farm, who will talk about their goats and goat cheese products; Dan Miller, Chester/Delaware County Farm Bureau, who will talk about the organizati­on’s programs and scholarshi­ps; and Logan Hall, Penn State Extension, who will talk about his organizati­on as well as the spotted lanternfly.

“The agricultur­al community is so important to the chamber and the communitie­s in Chester County,” Steltz added. “We want to let everyone know about the abundance of food produced here, and that it is great to support local farmers.”

The Agricultur­al Summit is free and is a family – friendly event, according to Steltz, who added that the speakers will begin their presentati­ons at 6 p.m.

The Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1916 as the Coatesvill­e Chamber of Commerce, and is the oldest chamber of commerce in Chester County. It became the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce in 1975. It currently has 380 members and serves 23 municipal areas in the county’s western region.
