Perkiomen Valley sweeps C.B. South in district opener

The Perkiomen Valley girls volleyball team opened up the District One Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep of Central Bucks South.

The No. 11-seeded Vikings won by set scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-13 over No. 22 South.

Lia Torrillo had three aces and 12 kills for Perk Valley while Sarah Straub racked up three aces, 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Grace Herbein added two aces, four kills, 19 assists and nine digs while Liz Caruso had two aces and 17 digs.

The Vikings will travel to face No. 6 Plymouth-Whitemarsh on Thursday at 7 p.m. COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, METHACTON 1 >> The Warriors dropped their District 1-4A playoff opener against the Golden Hawks.

No. 14 C.R. South took the opening two sets 2521 and 25-21 before No. 19 Methacton answered back with a 25-13 win. South then closed out the match with a 25-18 decision.

With the result, Council Rock South advances to the second round and will face No. 3 Garnet Valley on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Boys soccer

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 6, KIMBERTON-WALDORF 1 >> The Panthers picked up a win over Kimberton during the quarterfin­al round of the Tri-County League playoffs.

Owen Taylor scored twice while Andy Nguyen, William Jiang (assist), Brock Reber (assist) and Jeremy Amaro each added goals.

Golf

PIAA >> The individual portion of the PIAA Class AAA Golf Championsh­ip wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, PA.

Franklin Regional senior Palmer Jackson used a stellar second day to claim the title at 4-under 140. He opened up the tournament with a 2-over 73 on Monday before backing it up with a 4-under 67 on Tuesday in a round that featured six birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Behind Jackson, Central Catholic’s Jimmy Meyers finished in second at 2-over 144 ahead of Holy Ghost Prep’s Liam Hart and Patrick Sheehan, who both finished up at 4-over 146 in a tie for third place. Fox Chapel’s Gregor Meyer rounded out the top five with a 5-over 147.

Norristown senior Caleb Ryan finished tied for sixth with Unionville’s Connor Bennink at 7-over 149.

Ryan opened up the tournament with a 6-over 77 before following it up with a 1-over 72 Tuesday in a round that was highlighte­d by two birdies and an eagle.

Younger brother Josh Ryan, a sophomore with Norristown, finished tied for 19th overall at 16-over 158. He fired a 78 on the opening day and wrapped up with an 80 to close out the tournament.

Elsewhere from the Pioneer Athletic Conference, Spring-Ford senior Axel Kalbach finished at 26-over 168. After starting out 17over on the opening round, he settled on Day Two on the way to a 9-over 80.

thers closed out the season with a TCL win over Woodlynde at Butter Valley (Par 36).

Drew Steinmetz fired a 38 followed by Tjomas Dormer and Ben Griffaton, who each finished at 46.

Girls tennis

TRI-COUNTY LEAGUE >> Perkiomen School dominated the Tri-County League championsh­ips, picking up first-place finishers in all four brackets.

Julia Kelly swept won first singles bracket, while Kate Galant ran through the second singles bracket. The pairing of Sherry Zhang/Maki Ashizawa ran through the first doubles bracket while Kristine Rivera/ Lynn Liu won the second doubles bracket.

Kelly posted a 6-0, 6-1 decsion over Woodlynde’s Sophia Walsh in the first singles semifinal before closing it out with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Hannah Parish. Galant won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Woodlynde’s Arianna Anyans in the semifinal before topping Barrack Henrew’s Ellie Sharwood 6-0, 6-2.

Zhang/Ashizawa posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Barrack’s Gabi Grob and Daniela Barow in the first doubles final. Rivera/Liu opened with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kimberton-Waldorf’s AnnaLise Tarlow/Maeve Clee before a 7-5, 6-3 win over Barrack’s Anita Hoffman/Sophie Levine.

Boys cross country

TRI-COUNTY LEAGUE >> The Panthers finished third overall in the Tri-County League championsh­ip meet with three runners in the top 12 finishers.

Collegium Charter’s Jacob Iseminger (18:16), Manny Hernandez (18:52) and Cole Mazzone (19:08) claimed the top three spots in leading the team to a first-place finish. Perk School’s Caleb Moyer finished seventh at 19:57 while Zach Palmer (20:27) and Aidan Feldman (20:36) finished 11th and 12th, respective­ly.

Girls cross country

TRI-COUNTY LEAGUE >> The Panthers finished second behind only Collegium Charter in the TriCounty League’s championsh­ip meet.

Collegium claimed four of the first five spots, headed by Lily Idling’s first-place finish at 22:33. Laurel Reese took top honors for Perk, finishing seventh overall at 24:23 followed by Rylee Walsh (24:31 in eighth. Christine Zheng finished 10th at 24:58.
