Assault leads crime in Pottstown in past week

POTTSTOWN >> Assaults were the leading crime in Pottstown over the past week.

According to crimemappi­ng.com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, seven incidents involving assaults were reported since Oct. 16. Those assaults were reported on West Fourth Street, North Franklin Street, the 200 block of Shoemaker Road, the 900 block of Queen Street, the 300 block of Apple Street, the 200 block of Oak Street and Winding Road.

Theft was the second most reported crime with four reported incidents in the past week. Two of the four incidents involved retail theft, both on the 200 block of Shoemaker Road. A purse snatching was reported on the 400 block of May Street and a theft from buildings was reported on the 200 block of Prospect Street.

Three vehicle break-ins were reported on the 500 block of Belmont Street, the 100 block of Reynolds Avenue and the 300 block of Manatawny Street.

Drug and alcohol violations and harassment were each reported twice since Oct. 16. Public drunkennes­s was reported on Chestnut Street while a case of drug possession was reported on the 900 block of Hale Street. Harassment occurred on the 100 block of North Warren Street and the 600 block of Manatawny Street.

Burglary, robbery, vehicle theft, vandalism, weapons offenses and fraud were all reported once over the past week. A burglary was reported on South Roland Street while a strong arm robbery was reported on North Charlotte Street. Criminal mischief to buildings was reported on the 200 block of Gay Street and a vehicle theft occurred on the 800 block of North Adams Street. One weapons offense occurred on the 200 block of East High Street, along with a case of fraud on the 200 block of East High Street.
