Area congregations schedule special services and events
First Presbyterian
Pottstown — Reformation Sunday will be celebrated with bagpipes, organ and songs at the 10:30 a.m. worship service at First Presbyterian Church. The Celtic Choir will be singing. The Marriage Course will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Jr. Seekers will enjoy a corn maze from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Centennial Lutheran
Kimberton — There will be a worship service at 9:30 a.m. on Reformation Sunday at Centennial Lutheran Church, 1330 Hares Hill Road. Stewardship Sunday will be observed with a celebration meal following the service.
Christ Lutheran
Barto — Reformation Sunday will be celebrated at the 7:45 and 10:15 a.m. worship services at Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road.
The church is hosting a soccer game at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at Victoria Park. The “Old Geezer” (team captain Butch Fox) against the “Young Whippersnappers” (team captain Dylan Drury) go head-to-head in a friendly game of soccer. Immediately following the game, there will be hot dogs, ice cream and fellowship time.
St. Luke’s Lutheran
Obelisk — Reformation Sunday will be celebrated at the 8 and 10:15 a.m. Holy Communion services at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Route 73 and Neiffer Road.
St. James Lutheran
Limerick — The annual “Costume Party and Trunk and Treat” will start at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church, 93 Kugler Road. A costume parade and tractor rides will be part of the outdoor activities. Prizes will be awarded for creativity shown for decorating the trunk of cars and costumes. Special activities will take place in the fellowship hall. Dinner will be provided.
Higher Ground International
Pottstown — A free winter coat giveaway will be hosted at noon on Sunday at Higher Ground Church International, 1126 South St. Coats will be given out after service. Hats and gloves also available.
Shepherd of the Hills
Bechtelsville — Youth Club is sponsoring a Hallelujah Nite from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 527 Hoffmansville Road. An H2O youth retreat will end with the youth assisting in the Hallelujah Nite.
The Congo Community Blood Drive will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sassamansville, on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Advance appointments may be made at GIVEaPINT.org, code 4816.
Mount Carmel UMC
St. Peters — Refreshments will be served after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 2203 Harmonyville Road. Everyone is welcome.
Trunk or Treat will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, rain or shine. Please call 484-520-6263 to reserve your car spot.
St. Luke Lutheran
Gilbertsville — This is Reformation Sunday, please try to wear red for the 9:30 a.m. worship service at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Ave. There will be a presentation by the Stewardship Team.
The Community Clothing Rack will not be open on Wednesday for clothing distribution.
St. Peter’s Lutheran
Pottstown — Reformation Sunday will be celebrated with Worship Services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 564 Glasgow St. The Youth Choir will be singing at the 10:30 a.m. service. Members of the Congregation are encouraged to wear something with the color “red,” the liturgical color of the day.
Today is the last day to purchase a Full-Course Meal ticket, from appetizer to dessert, for $20 per adult and $9 per child for the Fundraiser Dinner at the Outback Restaurant, Royersford, on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Proceeds to benefit the Capital Campaign.
Zion’s UCC
Pottstown — Protestant Reformation and the Posting of Martin Luther’s 95 Theses will be celebrated at the 10:15 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Zion’s United Church of Christ, Hanover and Chestnut streets.
Following church families will gather at the Manatawny Green mini golf at noon for the annual Halloween party. Lunch will be served and children/youth under 18 are free. Adults are $10.
Pastor Chinault will represent Zion’s at the Ursinus Association Fall Meeting at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s, Phoenixville.
Trinity UCC
Pottstown — Light refreshments will be served after the 9:30 a.m. worship on Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 60 N. Hanover St.
Members are invited to join Pastor Nichole Jackson each Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary for an hour of prayer. Visitors are always welcome.
First UCC
Royersford — Reformation Sunday will be celebrated during the 11 a.m. worship service at First United Church of Christ, 367 Washington St. A congregational conversation will take place after worship.
Brownback’s UCC
Spring City — Special music will be provided by both the Good News Singers and the Youth Handbell Choir at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Brownback’s United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Road. All are invited to remain after the service for the special Pumpkin Fest Social Hour which will include pumpkin-themed desserts and activities.
Bethel Community
Pottstown — It’s Youth/Teen Empowerment Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Community Church of Pottstown, 575 N. Keim St., when the youth/teen will lead in worship including the Young Sounds of Praise Choir singing.
Coventryville UMC
Pottstown — Trunk or Treat will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Coventryville United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Ridge Road. Bring your children in costume to a trick-or-treat style event in the church parking lot. Kids can have fun trick or treating in a safe environment by walking from car trunk to car trunk to enjoy fellowship and collect treats. Lunch will be available for free. Remember a bag for all the goodies.
