- Digital First Media

POTTSTOWN >> Be prepared for major detours and delays this weekend as PennDOT plans to shut down all lanes of Route 100.

Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) is scheduled to close between Shoemaker Road and Manatawny Street in Pottstown beginning at 9 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.

The unusual closing of all lanes is needed for railroad improvements related to a $13.3 million project to improve safety and traffic flow along key corridors in Pottstown, Lower Pottsgrove and North Coventry, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

During the 24-hour closure, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) passenger vehicles will be detoured over Route 663 (King Street), Manatawny Street and State Street.

Trucks will be directed to use Route 724 (Schuylkill Road),

Hanover Street, Farmington Avenue, Wilson Street and State Street.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because slowdowns will occur.

The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather.
