Doris May Malenke of Spring City
Doris May (Bortz) Malenke of Spring City, PA, joined her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2018, at 85 years of age. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents Myron and Katherine (Schmidt) Bortz and her second daughter, Pam. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ambrose, as well as her daughter, Debbie Witowski, daughter Cindy, wife of David Yeager, and son Bill, husband of Kim. She was a proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Elizabeth, Alex, Amanda, Ben, Ethan, Jordan, Ryan, Kirsten, and Chase. She has one greatgrandchild, Everly.
Before she was married, Doris worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad; she later worked as a tutor at the Owen J. Roberts School District for over 20 years. Doris was a faithful and active member of Calvary Bible Church of Phoenixville, where she was a Sunday School teacher and VBS instructor. She also served as a leader for Pioneer Girls and was a volunteer at Pennhurst State Hospital. Family was everything to Doris. She was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren, celebrating holidays and birthdays, attending sports games, and spending summer vacations at the beach and lake. She had a curious mind; she loved reading, watching Jeopardy, and traveling, always coming home with stories to share. She had a passion for animals, especially golden retrievers, which she and Ambrose bred as a hobby. Doris also enjoyed homemaking and caring for her flowers and vegetable garden. Doris’ gentle and sweet spirit, faithfulness, and ability to see beauty in the small details of everyday life brought joy to all those around her. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Doris at Manatawny Manor. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 19, at Calvary Bible Church, Valley Park and Whitehorse Roads in Phoenixville, preceded by a viewing from 9:00 - 9:45 am. Interment will follow in Brownback’s U.C.C. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
