In 1959 Nikita Khrushchev predicted for the U.S., “Your children’s children will live under communism. No, you won’t accept it outright but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won’t have to fight you, we’ll weaken you so badly you will fall like overripe fruit in our hands.” I remember that speech well, I hope you do also. —Info Depot

I read in Sunday’s Mercury that council failed to trim the 12 percent tax hike. I don’t think they tried very hard. When Sheryl Miller was on council she suggested a few ways to trim the budget and the tax hike but council wouldn’t hear of it. I’m hoping Sheryl will run for council president next time around. Nobody wants to live in Pottstown with the everincreasing tax hike every time you turn around.

For Jay Miller and the editor, isn’t this amazing how we have three states that have to recount their votes and recount their votes until the Democrats win the office? They’ve been counting in Florida for over a week now and haven’t come up with a total yet and the law says they were supposed to have the total by that evening. It’s amazing how the Democrats always can cheat on everything and win an election illegally.

Responding to all the callers who think things are going to change in the House now that Democrats are in control, don’t bet the ranch on it. Nancy Pelosi will still be the next speaker of the House. She will tell these freshman congressmen what to say, when to say it, where to say it and how to say something. She will tell them what committees they’re on or not on. If they think they’re going to turn over the apple cart they have another thing coming.

In Phoenixville from the north side of town into the borough there are two bridges. There’s a high bridge and a low bridge. The low bridge is a railroad bridge that crosses over the road coming in. The railroad bridge is rusty, it’s got graffiti, it looks horrible. Everything about downtown Phoenixville has been improved, cleaned up, modified but this bridge continues to be an eyesore. Can somebody on borough council please allot $500 to clean this bridge up? —Put Your Best Foot Forward

The veterans of the Pottstown area would like to thank the Girls Scouts who handed out cookies to the veterans at Applebee’s restaurant on Sunday, Nov. 11, in Pottstown. It was very nice of you to honor us veterans.

The heck with law and order. The heck with the Constitution. Just listen to the great and powerful Trump. He is our leader.

Drain the swamp? It seems like Trump’s own swamp is being drained. First Attorney General Jeff Sessions, then Chief of Staff Gen. Kelly and now DHS Secretary Nielsen. Maybe it will continue to Trump himself. —One Who Wonders

President Trump is set to fire more people from his administration. Just like in his TV show he loves to fire people because it gives him that feeling of power. He loves that feeling of power and of ego and of the wealth he has. They’re the most important to him. Some day when he’s broken down for whatever reason he’ll realize how temporary those things are and how in the long run they mean nothing. That’s what will happen. Good luck Mr. President.

This is for the person who says Trump doesn’t back down, he doesn’t take anything from anybody. Wait till Mueller gets done with him because that’s what John Gotti said a long time ago. He was the Teflon Don, thought he was untouchable. Guess where he ended up? Behind bars from Mr. Mueller. So Mr. Trump get ready for a take-down. —Jay Miller

Another young man murdered by the cops. When will they be held accountable?

This is Sgt. First Class Alan Collins from Spring City, retired. I would like to thank the generous people who picked up our check at the Lakeview Cafe on Sunday after church. I served 10 Months in Korea, two years active duty in the 27th in the National Guard. Thank you very, very much.

The Vatican cut short a plan by American Catholic leaders to confront sexual abuse. “The Vatican is again trying to suppress even modest progress by U.S. bishops,” said Anne Barrett Doyle, co-director of bishop accountability, which compiles data on clergy abuse in the church. She said “We’re seeing where the problem lies which is with the Vatican.” Does the pope himself have something to hide? —Agnostic
