Read what friends and neighbors have to say

- —Agnostic —Deplorable Dave from Stowe —Lefty —Mikado —One Who Wonders —Jim Fitch Sound Off is a forum to spur dialogue from residents of the communities we serve on topics of interest in those communities. Fair game are comments that raise issues of note

Take a look at what friends and neighbors are saying about local hot topics and join in on the conversation.

Can someone tell me who is the PIAA? How did they get to control high school sports? The PAC is now split into divisions. The local teams don’t play each other anymore. There are no Thanksgiving Day games anymore and those games always drew a large crowd. It seems like the schools are losing money. Is it so that the PIAA can have play-off games so far away that no one goes to them? I guess one PAC championship isn’t enough.

Don’t you love how these annoying telephone calls call you even on Thanksgiving Day? I’m ready to stick my phone out in the garage and not have a phone in the house just like the Amish to have some peace and quiet. But I’ll tell you our phone number is on the Do-Not-Call list because I just checked that the day after Thanksgiving. So why do they still keep on tormenting us? Something’s got to be brought to a head here with these marketing companies.

The Mercury published a story about a young man that was driven by his religion, Christianity, to go to an island where there are tribes of remote people who had no contact with the outside world. It is against the law to approach this island. Driven by Jesus to go there to preach the word he was quickly killed by bow and arrow then buried on the beach. Now they want to recover his body. I say let Jesus worry about it.

To all the customers out there who think they are entitled, the people trying to help serve you need respect too. Writing a review to the store badmouthing an employee is unfair. Maybe the employee should write a review about you. It too wouldn’t be nice.

A recent posting by a frequent caller states “We are a democracy.” Wrong. In a democracy where majority rules the last dissenting vote is at the end of the rope. Under a Republican form of government it’s what’s the law? How does the law read? Do the words “And to the republic for which it stands,” ring a bell? Brenda Snipes from Broward County, Florida, is the prime example of voter fraud and incompetence. I Googled her and can’t believe she is not in jail. She is making in excess of $178,000 per year and has been cited for infractions of voting law in 2002, 2004, 2006,2012, 2016 and again in 2018. She is the poster child for voter ID. President Trump, please help, even if you have to do it yourself through executive action of federal elections. Help.

Donald Trump removed restrictions on the irrigation water to save farmers $12 million. Now with the Romaine lettuce prices the American taxpayers are spending $103 million on medical bills.

Saudi Arabia first. A brutal murder goes unchallenged because of Trump family including Jared Kushner who has many financial dealings with the Saudis. They buy his yacht and his condos so that takes precedence over the murder of an innocent man. Still waiting for a Republican with courage to have the guts to say something about it. #pathetic.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich is considering a run in the 2020 presidential primary. The native Pennsylvanian has no connections with Saudi Arabia and highly respects our Constitution.

To Jay Miller, you have just proven to all in your post on Friday that you really don’t know your country even though you have such slanted opinions. Your right to talk about the president, good or bad, is guaranteed by the Constitution and not by a democracy. The United States is not a democracy, it is a constitutional republic. Should we judge your comments on your ignorance of the country you live in? You are a citizen that went to an American School I presume.

This is to One Who Knows. Guess you don’t know. President Trump was talking about the Ninth Circuit judge not the Supreme Court judges who Obama did appoint.

I see the chief turkey in the White House pardoned two real turkeys. I guess all birds of a feather stick together.

I see that the New York Times has discovered that our glorious president against the advice of his legal counsel tried to have both Hillary and James Comey prosecuted. It appears that the Donald will stop at nothing to undercut his opponents. How do we stop him?

Now that I’m retired I don’t have the get up and go I had in my youth. If laziness was an Olympic sport I’d make sure I came in fourth just so I wouldn’t have to walk up to the podium to get a medal.
