Take a look at what friends and neighbors are saying about local hot topics and join in on the conversation.

General Motors was in financial trouble and we used American tax money to bail them out to keep them running and to save jobs for the workers. Now they’re showing their gratitude for our help by closing their plant in Ohio and sending it to Canada. So much for America first by GM. I hope President Trump puts a high tariff on the Canadianmade cars.

A major report by 13 scientific government agencies projects major economic and environmental damage unless climate change is offset. Of course the Donald knows it all and doesn’t believe it. How sad.

Earlier this year GM warned Donald Trump’s import tariffs could lead to a smaller GM. Because of the tariffs on steel GM has lost over $1 billion. Now they are going to close seven plants in North America which amounts to 14,700 jobs. Trump told reporters Monday afternoon that he was not happy about the news and GM had better put something else in Ohio, one of the states with high layoffs. Thanks Donald.

As I sat doing a 5 mph crawl on Route 422 west in yet more road construction one has to ask are they ever going to finish construction on this road and how does a road that is constantly under the state of construction improve anybody’s quality of life? —Beyond Disgusted

To the nice lady on Saturday who helped an old man out with a grateful gift, thank you very much. That was at Aldi. You were very kind. God bless. —Grateful

Manor Care in Pottstown had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner for their patients and guests which was really enjoyed by all. You always hear about negativity about nursing homes. I think they should also hear the good things. God bless all who prepared and organized it.

Here we go again. To our new Pottstown Ms. Mayor and our police supervisor in charge, why does this continue in our town? No traffic enforcement for speeding, tailgating, running stop signs, etc. Your town is 25 mph. Why don’t you sit once in awhile on Moser Road, Industrial Highway, East High Street, 100 block of South Keim Street and pull people over and give tickets? The Oct. 18 article about aggressive driving, ridiculous. Nothing done again.

The number of farmers filing for bankruptcy this year doubled. Thanks Donald. Good Job. —Jay Miller

I have a great idea. Why don’t we let the immigrants come through. They’re mostly women and children looking to find asylum in this country and a safe place to live. They don’t carry diseases like leprosy and they’re not gang members like fake Fox News told us. Instead let’s get rid of the white nationalists, the neo-Nazis, the gun nuts and the anti-abortion zealots. That would really make America great again. —Lefty

Five more Americans killed in Afghanistan this month. That is a total of 13 for the year. We have been in Afghanistan for over 16 years. Donald Trump promised he would get us out, another lie. Also there are still 500 children in cages at the Mexican border. Trump cannot find their parents who he deported. How sad.

it’s about time people realize President Trump was not a born-and-bred politician. He was not educated to be a politician but he is a president and he deserves some respect and also give him a break. When he speaks out on Twitter he’s speaking as any other regular person like you and I. He’s not speaking as a president when he’s on there tweeting. Give me a break. —The Golden Ager

Unbelievable, a non-political post about the price of potato chips. I found it kind of humorous. Do what I do and wait till potato chips go on sale if you like them. I know they’re not good for you but if you enjoy that snack wait till they’re on sale. Many times they go on sale for two for $5 a 10-ounce bag or $1.99 even. Buy multiple bags and put them in your cabinet and there goes the expense problem with potato chips.

The other day someone told me I wasn’t as dumb as I looked and now I’m confused. Was it an insult or a compliment? —Jim Fitch This is for the lady with the chips. If you were to put a five-pound bag of potatoes in a deep fryer or pan with some oil you could make your own potato chips in less than an hour for a whole week. A five-pound bag of potatoes is only about $2.98. You can make your own chips that would last for a least two to three weeks for $3 if you have time otherwise I don’t know but that’s my thought on that.
