Lane closures planned on Route 422 next week
LOWER POTTSGROVE >> Route 422 motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions for pavement making installation.
The work is part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of Route 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, PennDOT announced. The work schedule is:
• Monday, Dec. 3, through Friday, Dec. 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., alternating left and right lane closures are scheduled on eastbound Route 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges; and
• Monday, Dec. 3, through Friday, Dec. 7, from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., alternating left and right lane closures are scheduled on westbound Route 422 between the Sanatoga and Route 724 interchanges.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on Route 422 through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. These operations are weather dependent.
In addition, Sanatoga Road will be closed and detoured between High Street and Skytop Road beginning Monday, December 10, through Friday, January 4 for roadway repair. During the four-week closure, motorists will be directed to use High Street and Pleasantview Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
Under the Route 422 project, PennDOT’s contractor is building, in phases, new structures over the Schuylkill River; new structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding Route 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over Route 422; improving and realigning ramps at the Route 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to Route 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.
J.D. Eckman Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish later this month.
