Spring-Ford, OJR wrestling set up showdown

The showdown is set. The Spring-Ford and Owen J. Roberts wrestling teams each did their parts Wednesday night to ensure all the stakes of next Wednesday’s matchup.

Spring-Ford handled Boyertown 44-15 while Owen J. Roberts knocked off Norristown 5518, both maintainin­g their undefeated runs in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division.

Their matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Owen J. Roberts (7 p.m.) is the likely decider of the division’s representa­tive for the PAC championsh­ip dual on Feb. 14 at Boyertown.

Wednesday at Spring-Ford, Louis Carbajal (195), Sean Brogan (285), Shane Reynolds (113), Jack McGill (138) and Joey Milano (182) won by pin while Zach Needles recorded a technical fall at 145 for the Rams (3-0 PAC Liberty, 13-2 overall). For Boyertown, Brett Breidor and Preston Fox were one-point winners at 152 and 160, respective­ly, while freshman Alan Alexander edged former PAC champion Chase Smith, 13-7, at 170.

At Norristown, Ricky McCutchen (170), Matt Karcewski

(182), Cole Meredith (138), Antonio Petrucelli (145) and Dan Mancini (152) were pinfall winners for the Wildcats (3-0, 12-2). Likine Wallace (220) and Tijear Brittingha­m (285) each won by pin for Norristown. POTTSTOWN 49, UPPER MERION 15 >> The Trojans scored five pins on the way to their PAC Frontier Division victory over the Vikings.

Kyleaf July (138), Emanuel Tamayo (152), Jamaal Pratt (170), Zachary Griffin (182) and Destyn Snyder (285) all won their bouts on falls. Demond Thompson chipped in with a major decision at 132 for Pottstown. PHOENIXVIL­LE 58, POPE JOHN PAUL II 24 >> The Phantoms cashed in on six forfeits as they topped the Golden Panthers in their PAC Frontier Division match.

Mason Koch (120) and Ethan Smith (126) scored pins for Phoenixvil­le (2-0) while Dave Polanski (182) added a technical fall. PJP got pins from Nick Tongo (106) and Ryan Vulakh (160) along with a pair of forfeits. DANIEL BOONE 43, READING HIGH 16 >> Pins by Quinn Foley and James Hogan headed the Blazers’ victory over the Red Knights, one that maintained their perfect run through the dualmatch season.

Both Foley (170) and Hogan (138) scored their falls in the first period, around the minute-and-a-half mark. Devin Dolla started Boone (6-0, 11-0) off with a major decision at 152 while Brady Barton (285), Chase Stehman (120) and Canton Dolla (126) added decisions around three forfeits.

Boys basketball

PHELPS 65, HILL SCHOOL 62 >> Ronnie Ellis made a 3 pointer at the buzzer, enabling Phelps School to prevail over the Blues in their non-league game.

Gabe Dorsey hit for 22 points to head a quartet of double-figure scorers for the Hill. Ryan Moffatt followed with 15, Daniel Nixon with 12 and Xavier Mayo with 10,

Girls basketball

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 39, KIMBERTON WALDORF 21 >> Naomi Knight netted a game-high 17 points to lead the Panthers past Kimberton Waldorf in Tri-County League play.

Tera Heintz had eight points, and Sophia Taylor six, for Perkiomen.

Boys swimming

BOYERTOWN 99, POPE JOHN PAUL II 47 >> The Bears got six individual first-place finishes from a similar number of swimmers in their PAC meet with the Golden Panthers.

Winning for Boyertown were Tye Oliver in the 200 free (1:52.88), Nolan Benner in the 200 IM (2:12.10), Conner Stoudt in the 50 free (24.76), Aaron Keifer in the 100 fly (58.57), Stephen Cisik in the 100 free (52.81) and Noah Vivian in the 500 free (5:28.59).

Girls swimming

BOYERTOWN 97, POPE JOHN PAUL II 62 >> Emily Drabick won two individual races to key the Bears’ PAC victory over the Golden Panthers.

Drabick headed the 200 IM (2:20.63) and 500 free (5:46.66).

Co-ed swimming

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 123, VALLEY FORGE MA 36 >> Kyle Silbert and T. Saeger won pairs of individual races to lead the Panthers in their non-league meet with Valley Forge Military Academy.

Silbert took the 200 free and 500 free, with Saeger doing the same in the 100 fly and 100 back. They also swam legs on two of Perkiomen’s three winning relays, Saeger in the 200 medley and Silbert in the 200 free.
