Perkiomen School girls claim Tri-County title

The Perkiomen School girls basketball team defeated Barrack Hebrew Academy Wednesday, 22-18, in the Tri-County League championsh­ip game at AIM Academy.

Tera Heintz had six points, and Naomi Knight five, to lead the Panthers. Chardae Stone and Abbey Glavin chipped in with four apiece for the locals.

Perkiomen advanced to the championsh­ip game with a 30-22 victory over Collegium Charter in their Feb. 8 semifinal-round game. Heintz was the scoring leader in that game, hitting for 12 while Springman added nine.

SPRING-FORD 59, COATESVILL­E 15 » Off an extended run in the PIAA Class AAA Duals last weekend, the Rams tuned up for the postseason by rolling over the Red Raiders in non-league action.

Dirk Nugent got SpringFord (21-6) rolling with a first-period pin at 152. Following a Coatesvill­e decision at 160 and forfeit to Chase Smith at 170, the Rams racked up successive pins from Joey Milano (182), D.J. Francis (195) and James Albert (220).

The Raiders got back within striking distance (30-15) by scoring 12 points between 285 and 113, but Spring-Ford ran the table over the final five weights to claim the victory. Alex Johns (132) and Jack McGill (138) posted falls — McGill’s 18-second drop the match’s fastest — before Zach Needles closed things out with a technnical fall at 145. Forfeits to Quinn Tobin (120) and Gus Carfagno (120) preceded the Rams’ last three wins. WILSON 49, POTTSGROVE 27 » In a non-league tuneup for Thursday’s Pioneer Athletic Conference championsh­ip match, the Falcons lost to the Bulldogs.

Pottsgrove’s points came from Zach Van Horn’s decision at 195, pins by Avery Shivak (220) and Manny Allen (285), a forfeit to Aiden Schell (106) and Josh Cerrito’s fall at 138. Cerrito had Pottsgrove’s fastest drop, 39 seconds.

Boys ice hockey

HILL SCHOOL 4, PRINCETON DAY1» Max Cichanowic­z’s goaltendin­g went a long way toward the Blues running over Princeton Day School in their MAHL semifinal-round game.

Cichanowic­z finished with 16 saves, 13 of them recorded through the first two periods. C.J. Duvall got the Hill’s scoring under way with a goal in the first period, and Jay Luce added another in the second with Brock Weimar and Ryan Long assisting.

Long and Alex Kiviniemi completed the Hill’s scoring with tallies in the third.
